Rachel Naomi Farrel (88) was born December 21, 1922, in Auburn, Nebraska; she went to be with the Lord, on January 3, 2011, Covina, California. She was preceded in death by her husband Edmund A. Farrel, her firstborn daughter Rachel, her parents LeRoy and Eula Kopp, her sister Evangeline Cass, and her brothers LaVern, Lorin and LeRoy II.
Upon graduation from high school Naomi started Interdenominational Youth Rallies in conjunction with ministering at her father’s church, Calvary Temple.
Naomi and her husband Ed were pioneer missionaries to Colombia, So. America from 1942 to 1951, building a mission and an elementary school, Colegio de Las Americas, in El Secreto, deep in the heart of the jungle.
From 1952 to 1961, they founded the Church of God, (Cleveland, TN) in Chile; establishing 60 churches, two Bible Institutes and another school.
After returning to the U.S., Naomi and Ed continued their ministry in missions to Mexico, along with distributing children’s literature around the world. From 1981 to 1985, they returned to South America and started the first Calvary Chapel in Villavicencio, Colombia.
Naomi loved music and played piano, organ, guitar, accordion and trumpet. She used this talent to lead, accompany and teach people of all ages to worship the Lord. She also studied Hebrew and enjoyed reading her Hebrew Bible.
Throughout her life, Naomi ministered with Ed in numerous countries in the Western Hemisphere and the Middle East, concurrently teaching in the Women’s Ministry at Calvary Chapel West Covina and later at Golden Springs. She also ministered at Ladies Conferences, Retreats, and Bible Studies, both here and abroad. In her later years, she led a ladies prayer group at Calvary Chapel Golden Springs.
Naomi is survived by her two daughters, Shirley and Sharon and their husbands, Norman Craver and Raul Ries; four grandsons, one granddaughter, one granddaughter-in-law, three great-granddaughters, one great-grandson, her brother, E. Paul Kopp, and sister-in-law Daphyne Ryan. Naomi leaves many friends and spiritual children around the world.
