• OVERUSED:• Ideas• Sayings• Expressions
It is Predictable
andExpected
By the way, what is a cliché?
Kids movies, teens movies, romantic comedies are mostly predictable.
Where can I find cliché?
Adapted from http://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/how-to-avoid-cliches.aspx
Clichés and Writing• When it comes to writing, a cliché needs to be
avoided, or even better, not used. Because…• It’s not creative• It’s boring and flat• It can sound like something your grandmother would say• It’s too colloquial and when you are writing you need a
certain formality• Need more reasons? Here is the last and most
important:
Who wants to read the same tired expressions used over and over? People want fresh and
exciting!
Some examples of clichés that we can’t stand to see
anymore…Better late than never
Selling like a hot cake Blue as the sky
Cry over spilled milk Busy as a bee
White as a ghost Been there, seen it, done it
Live and learn Time will tell

Substituting Clichés…
Why don’t you try instead…
“We sold out the whole stock in just a week. ”
“Our product sold like a hot cake”
Substituting Clichés
Maybe it is better if you say…
• Don’t dwell fatuously on past misfortunes.
Don’t cry over spilled milk
Substituting Clichés
Try instead….
Her eyes were like deep lakes of blue reflecting the imponderable sky.
“Her eyes were blue like the sky”
And Remember…..
BE CREATIVE!!!
Use your imagination and intelligence to create something fresh and exciting that no one has ever seem before!
