SOCKET 1
Introduce 1989 16-50 Mhz
Socket 1 was the second of
a series of standard sockets
created by Intel. various x86 microprocessors
were plugged.
Socket 1 was a 169 pin.

SOCKET 3
It was commonly found alongside a
secondary socket designed for a math
coprocessor chip, in this case the
487.
Socket 3 resulted from Intel's
creation of lower voltage
microprocessors. An upgrade to
Socket 2, it rearranged the pin layout
and omitted one pin so that 3.3 V
processors could not be plugged into
older 5 V only sockets.
Socket 3 was a 237-pin.

SOCKET 4
Socket 4, presented in 1993, was the
first CPU socket designed for the
early Pentium processors
Socket 4 was the only 5-volt socket
for the Pentium. After Socket 4, Intel
switched to the 3.3-volt-powered
Socket 5. Socket 4 does support a
special Pentium OverDrive, which
allows running at 120 MHz (for the 60
MHz Pentium) or 133 MHz (for the 66
MHz Pentium).[1]

generation of Intel Pentium
processors operating at speeds from
75 to 133 MHz as well as certain
Pentium OverDrive and Pentium
MMX processorswith core voltage3.3 V

Socket 8 has a unique rectangular
socket with 387 pins.
It supports a FSB speeds ranging from
60 to 66 MHz, a voltage from 3.1 or
3.3V, and support for the Pentium
Pro and the Pentium II OverDrive
CPUs. Socket 8 also has a unique pin

SOCKET 563
Processor AMD Athlon XP-M
Socket 563 is a microPGA CPU socketused exclusively for low-power (16 Wand 25 W TDP) Athlon XP-Mprocessors (Models 8 & 10.
This socket can usually be found in
laptops and requires a low-powermobile part in a special 563-pin PGApackage which is different from theSocket A (462 pin) package used forother Athlon processors.
There are desktop computermotherboards equipped with Socket
563. PCChips is know
n to havemarketed such a board, the M863GVer3 (actually made by ECS), bundledwith a socket 563 processor and aheatsink.

Replaces Socket 479.
Socket M is not pin-compatible withthe older desktop Socket 478 or thenewer mobile Socket P; it is alsoincompatiblewith most versions of
the older mobile Socket 479. PentiumIII-M processors designed for the firstversion of Socket 479 will physicallyfit into a Socket M, but areelectrically incompatiblewith it
