REACH THE SKY – SPEAK OUT!
Imagine your growing years…

You in class 9
The “SPEAK OUT” Evolution
You are 7 years old
One evening uncle comes home and he and daddy start talking about something that catches your attention. After some bit of listening, you put across a point. Your uncle smiles with a puzzled look and daddy frowns and tells you to watch TV.
After uncle is gone, daddy calls you and says “when two elders are talking, you should not put your tiny head and brain in between.”
The next time uncle comes, you dare not speak.
You pick the remote and start flipping the channels without any rhyme or reason, Or you pick a book with non interest and start flipping the pages with your ears still glued on what the conversation is about!
You are in class 9
The geography teacher asks the entire class a question. You raise your hand, stand up and answer the question.
The teacher orders the class to clap for you and they do.
You feel happy at the moment and then after the class your friends ask you why did you have to raise your hands. They warn you that you will be “branded” as teacher’s pet if you try to act over smart.
The next time the geography teacher asks a question to the class, you look around to see if anyone has raised their hands.
If no one has, you skip raising your hand.
The teacher asks you if you know the answer and you rattle the answer. The teacher this time reprimands you for not raising your hand even when you knew the answer.
You join college
The trend of the teacher asking questions continues.
You know the answer but because you have been told not to come across as an over smart, over enthusiastic person, the reaction that you have is to let others do the talk while you observe and watch.
The habit continues for the rest of the years you spend at the college.
At moments when you speak, you feel that the entire group has ganged up and making fun of you. You shell yourself!
You join an organization
You become a part of the team.
During team meetings, when the team leader asks for some suggestions, you realize that you are not contributing much to the discussions and talk only when asked.
And that too you speak less and with less conviction.
