Weekly News for Wodonga West and Rural Uniting Churches
Pentecost 19 Welcome to WORSHIP

Esther 7:1-6, 9-10;9:20-22, Psalm 124, James 5:13-20, Mark 9:38-50
John said to him, ‘Teacher, we saw someone
casting out demons in your name, and we
tried to stop him, because he was not
following us.’ But Jesus said, ‘Do not stop
him; for no one who does a deed of power in
my name will be able soon afterwards to
speak evil of me. Whoever is not against us is
for us. For truly I tell you, whoever gives you
a cup of water to drink because you bear the
name of Christ will by no means lose the
reward.
‘If any of you put a stumbling-block before one of these little ones who believe in
me, it would be better for you if a great millstone were hung around your neck and
you were thrown into the sea. If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is
better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and to go to hell, to
the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is
better for you to enter life lame than to have two feet and to be thrown into hell.,
And if your eye causes you to stumble, tear it out; it is better for you to enter the
kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and to be thrown into hell,
where their worm never dies, and the fire is never quenched.
‘For everyone will be salted with fire. Salt is good; but if salt has lost its
saltiness, how can you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with
one another.’
Mark 9:38-50

Education day with john Flett
St. Stephen’s UC has organised a day, Saturday, October 27, 9:30 am – 3:30 pm, to be held here at Emmanuel’s Meeting Place, to engage with John Flett, who is the Co-ordinator of Studies, Missiology and Intercultural Theology with our UCA Synod’s eLM (equipping Leadership for Mission) unit based at the Centre for Theology and Mission. His focus will be ‘To respond as the people of God, it is necessary to understanding the forces shaping our ways of understanding the world and gathering together’. There is no cost for the day, but a gold coin donation would be appreciated for the morning and afternoon tea which will be provided. People are asked to BYO lunch. We are very fortunate to have John in this area and the day should lead us to greater insights. Register with LouAnne or e-mail [email protected] . Note: At 4 pm Wodonga Minister’s Fellowship invite you to stay beyond afternoon tea for an hour of reflection and prayer focused on Anti-poverty Week.
Church Grounds and Maintenance
Every Wednesday morning a team of congregation members enjoy a time of fellowship maintaining the church grounds and attending to maintenance issues with the building. Grounds maintenance includes mowing, edging, weeding and keeping the paths swept. We are fortunate to have up to date equipment including two new mowers purchased earlier this year at little cost to the church through a donation from Jacks Rags and the sale of the 10 year old ride on mower. The team ensures that any reported maintenance issue is attended to wherever possible with our own skills or calling upon our preferred plumber, electrician and builder. Wednesday morning fellowship includes a very pleasant morning tea to discuss current affairs or reminisce about past events. Apart from our regular team, an invitation is always open to any member of the church who would like to take part on Wednesday morning, even to join us at morning tea, usually at 10:30am. Members of the team come and go according to commitments during the year.
