• There are various realism movements in the arts, but realism art movement in painting began in France in the 1850

• Realism avoided artificiality in depicting human relations and emotions

• There were no exaggerated emotions in Realism

• Unpleasant aspects of life were not avoided in Realism

• It portray real situations and contemporary people very accurately

• It depicted people of all classes in situations that arise in ordinary life

• Realism also reflected the changes brought by the Industrial and Commercial Revolutions
