Welcome to

Gumbo Limbo Nature Center!

Named after one of the dominant tree species

in the hammock, Gumbo Limbo Nature Center

is designed to provide environmental education

for both the community and walk-in visitors.

We are located in the City of

Boca Raton’s Red Reef Park on

a barrier island between the

Atlantic Ocean and the

Intracoastal Waterway.

Woodpeckers, spotted skunks, gray fox,

screech owls and many other animals make

their home here.

Rare and endangered species such as manatees

and sea turtles have often been observed off

Gumbo Limbo’s shore.

Coastal relics such as shell middens from the

Glades Indians, pond apple and cabbage palm

trees from the shore of the Spanish River

(original body of freshwater) can be seen from

the boardwalk. These assets give Gumbo Limbo

a unique blend of living history.
