RCMP were able to recover some of the stolen property and are working to identify and return it to the rightful owners.
Boston Bar RCMP is requesting that if anyone has any information relating to these events please call 604-867-9333, or if you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at

Terry Raymond was officially sworn in as our Director on December 17th, 2014. He has since been placed on the following committees:
Regional and Corporate Services
Electoral Area Services
Aboriginal Relations
Recreation Commission
As well as participating within those committees, Director Raymond has also been working hard on our community’s behalf.
He has met twice with the potential developer of the high line houses but there are still issues that need to be settled. Hopefully, there will be a resolution by our next community meeting.
He recently spent 3 days in Richmond at the Local Government Learning Academy.
Also he has had meetings with the Ministry regarding the protection of our alpine area’s natural water collection.
He has been in talks with Minister Stone as well, regarding the aging structure at Alexandra Bridge Provincial Park.
Director Raymond has attended four budget meetings, and is currently preparing a presentation for our community. He is awaiting a confirmation date from the Fraser Valley Regional District for our community’s budget presentation. Please watch for notification of the next community meeting in your mailbox.

Hockey rinks and recreational facilities across Canada will become safer places thanks to a joint program of the fed-eral government and the Heart and Stroke Foundation that will place 2,000 life-saving automated external defibril-
lators (AEDs) across Canada. (There is one at Canyon Lanes.)

CALL 9-1-1 immediately, or have someone call for you. Keep a list of emergency numbers near the phone at
all times. Stop all activity and sit or lie down, in whatever position is most comfortable. If you take nitroglycerin,
take your normal dosage. If the 9-1-1 operator advises it, chew and swallow one adult tablet or two 80 mg
tablets of ASA (Aspirin®), as long as you are not allergic or intolerant. Do NOT take other pain medications
such as acetaminophen (Tylenol®) or ibuprofen (Advil®) instead of Aspirin. Do NOT substitute Aspirin for medi-
cal care. Rest and wait for emergency medical personnel to arrive. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE YOURSELF OR
DRIVE THE INDIVIDUAL TO THE HOSPITAL. Cardiac arrest is a medical emergency and can strike without warn-
ing, affecting people of ALL ages and all fitness levels. Signs of a cardiac arrest include: Sudden collapse. Sud-
den unresponsiveness to touch or sound. Abnormal or no breathing.
STROKES occur due to problems with the blood supply to the brain; either the blood supply is blocked or a blood vessel within the brain ruptures. Strokes can affect anyone at any age. Help your community learn the signs of stroke. Post this page to your refrigerator, at your local community center or put it up at work. Transient ischemic attack (TIA), or “mini-stroke” happens when a clot stops blood from flowing to the brain for a short time. TIA is still a medical emergency. Call 9-1-1 immediately.

“The Good, the Bad and the Ugly… and the Good”
“I was returning to our little community a few days ago thinking what a wonderful day it was for a drive in the Canyon. The weather was beautiful, the roads were clear and I was excited to be back amongst people that have accepted us with open arms. That thought was quickly erased by the idea that someone could come to our little town and run amuck. The idea of someone affecting so many people negatively really put a damper in my drive. But then, I remembered that I worked with some fantastic officers. Between Steve and Francois, and other officers; the guys and gals involved worked extremely hard to locate the person respon-sible for the recent break and enters in our community. Through dedication and hard work, the person responsible was caught. With all the recent activity, it is a good reminder that Boston Bar is not immune from the crime world. With that said, we would like to remind everyone that we are always looking for information, tips and suggestions in order to make Boston Bar the safest community in the Fraser Valley. As we have mentioned before, we appreciate your efforts and we are always looking for ways to be one step ahead…or at least fairly close behind… Here is how you can help: Local Police: PLEASE COME SPEAK WITH US. The information you provide may not be something we can act on immediately but it does not mean that the information is forgotten. Sometimes the information provided by one person alone cannot be acted upon but with several complaints or in conjunction with the Crime Stoppers tip, we may be able to act on it.
Upper Fraser Val ley Cr ime Stoppers :
Call 1-800-222-8477 – Operators are available to take your tips 24 hours, 7 days a week;
TipSubmit Mobile – Download the app and submit your tips anonymously from your smart phone;
Secure online TIP form – Visit www.ufvcs.ca
Here are some of the things we would like you to be on the look -out for:
THEFT - Do you know who is responsible for thefts in the area?
DRUGS - Do you know who deals drugs locally, what type of vehicle they drive?
BREAK AND ENTER - Do you know who is responsible for break and enters?
STOLEN PROPERTY - Do you know where someone has stolen property: bicycles, vehicles?
GROW OPS/METH LABS - Have you noticed a strange smell, blacked out windows?
SUSPICIOUS PERSONS/VEHICLES - Have you seen someone you don’t recognize next door?
ARREST WARRANT - Do you know where someone with an outstanding arrest warrant is hiding?
As the old saying goes, “a picture is worth a thousand words.” If you have the ability to install surveillance equipment, the videos or images can assist police immensely. Although we cannot assist with the funding, Steve, Francois and I will gladly swing by and assist you by giving you advice on where to place surveil-
lance equipment.“ - Cst . Robert TUMBAS
FRASER CANYON SHUTTLE BUS
Everyone in the Fraser Canyon acknowledges that
transportation to services is a priority. Therefore, trans-
portation was on the “wish list” of the BB/NB Enhance-
ment Society. In 2013, we heard through the “grape-
vine” about funds being dedicated by the provincial gov-
ernment to help Seniors stay in their homes as long as
possible. Nancy Carmichael and Patricia Davison made
sure the Boston Bar area was represented and talks
began about creating the Better at Home Program here.
The Provincial Government dedicated millions to create this service and entrusted the details to
the United Way of the Lower Mainland. (Guaranteed for 3 years) The “basket of services” is sup-
posed to include: transportation, light housekeeping, light yard work, snow shovelling and friendly
visits.
Care Transit, in Hope, was designated as the “lead agency” and the Enhancement Society is in
partnership with them. Care Transit is given $100,000 per year and Boston Bar gets $18,000 of
that money. As mentioned last month, Lloyd Forman purchased the Shuttle Bus and the pro-
gram pays the cost of weekly transportation to Hope/Chilliwack. Also included in this budget we
pay for telephone, wages to a coordinator and an administrator/accountant. Unfortunately, this
doesn’t leave enough funds to be able to offer the rest of the “basket of services” as intended.
In order to increase funding to our own area, we need to fill the bus from Boston Bar. The
bus holds seats for 12 people and one wheelchair slot. We usually fill most of the bus by picking
up seniors in Yale. (Yale residents are part of the Hope program but we are compensated ac-
cordingly). Although seniors have first priority, non-senior riders are also very welcome. Sen-
iors’ fares are subsidized and non-seniors pay full fare. Anyone can ride the Shuttle Bus. Return
fares are $20 to Hope and $30 to Chilliwack. Comments from our riders have been overwhelm-
ingly positive: “felt like I was treated like royalty,” “polite, considerate and most helpful” and just
recently: “boy, when they say door to door, they really mean it!”
In order to continue this much-needed service, we need to increase our rid-
ership; so please give some thought to riding the shuttle next time you need
groceries, have hair appointments, doctor visits, or whatever.. (For more infor-
mation please see Page 4 - Better at Home Program)

YOUTH NIGHT at Canyon Lanes
Friday, February 20th from 6-10 pm.
All families are welcome!!!
Snacks will be supplied but feel
free to bring some!
*According to BaHP survey*: “Although these charts reveal similar is-sues in all communities, transportation is a non-issue for First Nations on the north east area of the Fraser Canyon as they are successfully maintaining vehicles that support their residents' requirements. The Boston Bar/ North Bend and First Nations survey held several requests for the instal-lation of safety measures (bathroom bars, railings, etc.) in homes. Both Boston Bar/North Bend and Hope share identical patterns in the identification of main issues where support is required. The top three issues identified by seniors and service providers are transportation, housekeeping and visitations which in-
cludes social outings.”

Family Place will be conducting workshops for the program known as TRIPLE P, POSITIVE PARENTING PROGRAM dur-
ing the month of February and into March. If you are interested in attending please phone Nancy or Marg at 604-
867-9204 during Family Place hours (see calendar) or leave a message after hours and we will get back to
you. Triple P doesn't tell you how to parent but it does offer some great tips and strategies for being a more effec-
tive parent. Family Place is offering this program to all families, not just those with children under the age of 7. The
2 - 3 classes are approximately 90 minutes each and we will do our best to accommodate your schedule.

Have you ever visited the Community Centre in North Bend? You should, it is a wonderful place to visit. This building has been open for over seven years. It houses a large Thrift Shoppe and Museum, run by dedicated and hard-working volunteers, a Wellness Centre run by Shoneena Loss, and in the seniors' room, there are three computers with internet for anyone to use. There is also an Art, Jewellery. and Pottery Gallery as well as the Seniors Room where, every Tues-day, Steve Clark gathers musicians and singers for a jam session. This is especially enjoyed by the volunteers in the Thrift Shoppe and any shoppers present at that time. If you have any good used clothing, furniture, odds and ends or sellable items please donate them to the Thrift Shoppe. rather than throw them away. 100 % of our sales go to pay for the internet, electricity, and keeps our wonderful Museum open that Joan Blakeborough started years ago,. The proceeds also pay for the upkeep of the entire building, all looked after by volunteers. We hope to see you soon!

The students here at BBESS are working hard in meeting and exceeding reading, writing and numeracy outcomes. This year BBESS implemented a learning tool called IXL for Language Arts. This software helps students practice, gives in-stant assessment of their work and a tracking system. Since last November our grade 7 to grade 12s have answered 31,265 and have spent over 106 combined hours and 41 minutes total and earned 261 medals. Our students are working
hard and moving forward in their learning and having fun doing it!
In the second grade they are using IXL in learning about Nouns, Sentences, Fragments, and Run-ons; Irregular and Reg-ular Plural Nouns. Grade 3 is working on Subject and Predicate and Sentences, Fragments and Run-ons. Their teachers are continually challenging them while making learning fun through hands-on activities, discussions, group projects and
guiding students to connect their learning with students’ everyday lives.
Our grade 4 and grade 7 students are practicing for the Fundamental Skills Assessment (FSA) which assesses them on reading, writing and numeracy. They will be taking the on-line test in February. PAC is continuing the hot lunch program and in February will be on February 2 and February 16th. On February 12th at 1:00 pm a production from ARTSTARTS.
Feel free to come and watch the performance with us!
Parents of students in grades 6-12 should have received an invite from Mrs. Dekok to join her on Freshgrade. It is an online gradebook that allows the teacher, students and parents to view, comment and display their work. As a student
aptly described: "It's like Facebook for grades!" We are excited to see how it works out.
