July 24th
- The American Village, Montevallo, AL Bring your imagination and sense of adventure to the revolution-ary American Village - a venue so unique, it’s a national treasure! The American Village brings to life our nation's stories of liberty and sacrifice. Three major elements dominate the master site plan of the American Village. Independence Circle represents Liberty drawing the thirteen colonies together in common cause. Atop the hillside, Constitution Green represents the enshrinement of that liberty within the Constitution. Around that green are major structures representing the Executive (Washington Hall), Judicial (Courthouse), and Legislative (future Independence Hall) branches of the Republic. A grand avenue rises upward from Independence Circle toward Constitution Green, signifying the upward American experience from the colonial period to the new American Republic. Along that avenue is sited the Chapel. This draws from L’Enfant’s early plan for the new capital city, where he placed a “temple” along the “grand avenue” linking the Capitol and President’s House. The cost of the trip includes transportation and admission. Please bring money for lunch after the tour. $10. Payable to the AAB. Tuesday, July 24th • 7:30am - 4:00pm.
