Why Reinvent?• There is a need for a more technology-literate educated
public in all academic disciplines.• Polytechnic Universities have a unique educational role
to play in preparing graduates for the modern technological economy.
• To meet this challenge, Southern Polytechnic State University has focused on curricular change involving the fusion of liberal arts and technology, resulting in an increasingly comprehensive university.
• Every program is technologically focused, including those in the "traditional" liberal arts areas

SPSU History
• Founded in 1948– Originally, a two-year division of Georgia Tech– Founded to serve the needs of returning WWII
veterans– Requested by Georgia business and industry
• Accredited as a four-year college in 1970• Granted independent status in the University
System of Georgia in 1980
