1 GeneralThis release notes provide information concerning a new Beta software revision 3.5. Thisdocument includes information on this release of software, details the main features and knownlimitations.
This release notes corresponds to the Beta software version 3.5.
2 New Features in SW Version 4.0
2.1 SDMA2 – Space Division Multiple Access
Space Division Multiple Access (SDMA) enables simultaneous downlink communication withmultiple users at the same time over the same frequency channel. Thus increasing significantlythe network capacity.
Wavion's SDMA2 constantly selects the best pairs of clients for parallel transmission. Eachclient should be connected to its individual antenna. The pairs of clients may changedynamically, to achieve maximum efficiency of the network.
The following table presents the throughput improvements gained by applying SDMA.
Maximum throughputachieved in previousversions (3.1)
Maximum throughputachieved in version 4.0(SDMA enabled)
Improvements gain inversion 4.0
UDP DL TCP DL* UDP DL TCP DL* UDP DL TCP DL*
26Mbps 17.7Mbps 53Mbps 32Mbps 203% 180%
* TCP DL is measured with multiple concurrent streams and large window size.
Note: SDMA is not supported in WBS-2400 HW version AErev4, and in WBS-5800 at this point.
Wavion's SDMA feature is licensed enabled. Please contact Wavion Support team to get yourlicense for this feature.
2.2 Performance Improvements
Version 4.0 presents performance improvements compared to earlier versions.
The improvement of TCP and UDP throughput compared to version 3.1 is by 20-30%, withouttaking into account the SDMA capacity improvement that is introduced in this version.
2.3 Enhanced Backhaul Option
Version 4.0 introduces a new "CPE as Backhaul" option. With this option, remote standard
802.11 CPEs communicate with central WBS while providing backhaul connectivity to access

WBSs. This P2MP backhaul option allows you to enjoy the benefits of Beamforming and SDMAfor the backhaul at low cost.
Using CPEs for backhaul, enables operators to build a dual frequency network; whereone frequency layer is used for the access and the other frequency is used for backhaul. This approach optimizes the network capacity for both the access and the backhaul.Furthermore, as opposed to mesh architecture, the base station’s backhaul does notreduce the access capacity and will not introduce additional delays to the traffic. This architecture for backhaul will also ensure the QoS is enforced throughout the
network; in both the access network and the backhaul.
2.4 Better Indoor Coverage
In version 4.0 Wavion is introducing a new, dualzone CPE. This powerful device will allow you toprovide the Wi-Fi connection directly to the laptopclients, in any room of the house or office, even if the
base station is installed at a distance of 300 metersaway from the house.
The Wavion dual zone CPE is a small and compactdevice which can be easily window mounted. It picksup the WBS-2400 Wi-Fi signal and retransmits itthroughout the house / or office to all the laptops in the facility. In the other direction thedual zone CPE transmits the signal coming from the laptop back to the Wavion basestation. This simple solution provides a true wireless solution from the operator to the
end-user laptops at a very attractive cost.

2.5 Enhanced Reporting
Version 4.0 presents better reporting of connection flow, which improves understandingof clients' connectivity by System operator.
Each event, in addition to the description, is accompanied by the associated client' MACAddress and connection SNR. These parameters help understanding the quality of theconnection. For the full list of Connection Flow events please refer to the "Release Notes V4.0 – NewEvents" document.

3 Known Issues and Limitations
3.1 Conditions for successful SDMAs
SDMA2 is easily experienced when the following conditions are met:
- SDMA license is installed and active
- Multiple WiFi clients (at least 2) are associated and concurrent downlink best-efforttraffic to these clients is applied.
- WiFi clients are connected in good conditions (SNR of the clients is greater than15dB and Beamforming traffic to these clients is at 54Mbps), and in range of up to
5Km.
- Allow few minutes for base station to calibrate its radios for optimal SDMAperformance. In case high level of interference exists next to the base station, theRadio calibration process may take longer time.
3.2 SDMA2 in Long Range setting (#7441)
It is recommended to evaluate the benefits of SDMA2 in regular range setups (when the systemis configured to 2.8Km). SDMA2 is not applicable to work at Long Range of 10Km or higher.
When working at range greater than 3km with security WPA2 and applying high load of TCP
traffic, the system may experience instabilities.
3.3 SDMA mode improves performance of data (regular priority) traffic
SDMA improves overall network capacity while improving downlink data traffic. VoIP and Videotraffic applications may improve, due to the fact that data traffic will consume less air-time(thanks to SDMA). However, this version does not apply the SDMA transmission on high prioritytraffic, but rather only on regular priority (e.g. standard data) traffic.
3.4 Enhanced Backhaul Option – uses WiFi standard (#7431)
Since the Enhanced Backhaul Option introduced in this version uses the standard WiFiprotocol, it has limitations based on standard WiFi. One of these limitations is the fact thatstrong CPEs may cause starvation to weak CPEs in case high traffic load is applied.
3.5 WavioNet 1.0 presenting wrong event for (WN#374)
When CPE-as-Backhaul link changes its status the wrong event appears on WavioNet1.0 NMS system.
Work around: Upgrade the Wavion MIB in the WavioNet installation.

4 Notes Regarding 3rd Party Equipment
4.1 Long Range issue with Ubiquiti PS5
When setting the check box of 'auto adjust' to long range, the PS5 doesn't always "lock" on thecorrect distance and as a result, throughput may be low. As a workaround, please set the LongRange configuration manually, or, use the 'auto adjust' first, and then add to it manually.
4.2 Rarely, WDS doesn't work on Ubiquiti CPEs (#7351)
WDS interoperability issue was found with some Ubiquiti CPEs. The CPE is configuredas STA-WDS but it acts as regular station.
4.3 Misbehavior of NS5 as WDS-STA when working WPA-2 & WMM(#7381)
In some cases when Ubiquiti NS5 was configured to work as WDS-STA in WPA-2security passing WMM traffic; it failed to accept simultaneous streams on different AccessCategories.
4.4 Ubiquiti version 3.5 and higher has better QoS performance
It is recommended to work with Ubiquiti CPEs running version 3.5. This version setscorrectly the Access Category (AC) field base on VLAN or DSCP priority tagging to bothunicast and broadcast/multicast packets.

5 Good Practice
5.1 RTS CPEs threshold
To better support CPE network capacity, it is highly recommended to enable RTS/CTS optionon the CPE side. In case the CPEs are located far from each other (hidden node condition) thelower limit of the RTS Threshold parameter should be used (256 Bytes or lower).
5.2 Internet Explorer cache issues managing WBS
When upgrading WBS to a new firmware, it's a good habit to clean the Internet Explorer cache.
5.3 Use of Management VLAN
The use of dedicated Management VLAN to manage WBSs is found to be a good protection tothe infrastructure network.
6 Bugs Fixed
ID Description7346, 7325 Change WBS' IP address takes effect immediately
7414, 7415 When working in 11b+g mode, b-only clients failed to connect
SF-1391 Work around WPA2-PSK MikroTik interoperability issue
7197, 7123 Losing the ability to manage the WBS
