SPIRIT
It’s the music that changed the world! The Rivers pay tribute to the first big hits of rock ‘n’ roll, celebrating the music of Bill Haley, Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry, The Everly Brothers, the young Elvis Presley, and other hit makers from the years 1952 to 1960. A Rivers’ concert is a trip back to a simpler time when you could gas your car up for 3 or 4 bucks, call home for a dime, and dance for pure social pleasure. The Rivers duplicate the 2- and 3-part harmonies from the days when rock ‘n’ roll and country were cousins.

Nearly 2,000 hours of work over two years resulted in this amazing model house (pictured lower right). It is a scale model of Little Moreton Hall in Cheshire, England, a Tudor manor house built between the years 1500 and 1650. Jim Hockenberry, a member of the Manor North Woodshop, wanted a different type of woodworking challenge and after a few months, settled upon a model of this house which he long admired and once visited.
The model is constructed almost entirely of wood, and almost all pieces were made from scratch. Exceptions are acrylic sheet for the moat and the windows, electrical wiring for lighting, foam board for outside paneling, and real pebbles for the cobblestone-paved areas. None of the materials used have been prefabricated, precut, or purchased for direct use. The scale is about 1 to 34, not a normal scale for model railroading, but determined by the shop space available.
The real Little Moreton Hall (pictured above right) is owned and managed by The UK’s National Trust and is open to the public for tours and special events. It is arguably the best preserved manor house of its kind in England and is certainly the most photographed.
Join Garden Apartment Resident, Jim Hockenberry, as he talks about this tremendous two-year project from start to finish, including the resources and materials he used, the planning process, challenges he faced along the way, and his communication with Little Moreton House in England. A reception will follow in the Art Gallery.
