The Department of Youth Welfare organised a programme “GREEN ROOM –
Cultivating Creativity”, for the purpose of increasing creativity, self confidence,
competence and compassion among selected students from 04th
to 06th
February 2011 at
SMS Auditorium of the University. 20 Students from various Colleges / Schools/
Departments and 10 student mentors were participated in the programme.
Groom Room, the workshop for cultivating creativity was inaugurated at 9.30 AM by
the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. Ramachandran Thekedath on 4th
February 2011. Sri
Praveen C P, Chairman, University Union presided over the function. Ms. Ojas S.V, a known
theatre artist from Pune was the guest of honour. The camp directors Mr. Manoj Kumar and
Mr. Vinod Kumar also attended the programme. Dr P.K Baby, Director, Students Welfare
welcomed the gathering and Ms. Uma T.S from School of Legal Studies proposed the vote
of thanks.
Following the inaugural session, a thrilling introduction through ice breaking was
carried out by Mr. Jatheen Jathavedhan. The participants were asked to introduce themselves

through small skits in a creative manner. After the lunch, Mr. Jijoy from School of Drama led
a session on ‘acting and theatre games’. After Mr. Jijoy’s session, Ms. Ojas, S.V performed
a soliloquy, Le Mashale, in which Irom Sharmila narrates the anguish and aspiration of
Manipur through its fables, dances and major incidences which transformed her life. The
play puts forth many questions raised by torch bearing women from the valley. Following the
performance, she shared her experiences with the participants. She handled one session on
‘Space Utilisation and Properties’. The first day’s programme ended with camp evaluation
after dinner.
On the second day, the participants reported at 8.00 AM and submitted camp dairy in
which they wrote all that what influenced them last day. The first session was by Ms. Ojas
S.V on ‘Physical Theatre’. She used enormous exercises, activities and meditation for
discovering the space around each person both physically and mentally. After the tea break,
Mr. Manoj Kumar Shared his theatre and film experiences with participants. The afternoon
session was by Mr. Vinod Kumar. He explained the importance of script. Six scripts were
distributed among students to do theatre experiment under his guidance. At 6.30 PM, there
was a solo performance, ‘Dinesante katha’ by Mr. Vinod, this year’s Kerala Academy Award
Winner. Following it, he led a session on characterisation and voice modulation. The second
day’s programme ended with camp evaluation after dinner.

The last day of the camp started with a session by Mr. Amal Raj and Rajesh Sharma
eminent theatre artists and academy award winners. They lead session on ‘acting, stage
utilisation and use of properties’. After lunch, Mr. Vinodkumar C.S guided various
participant groups for their performance. Mr. Santhosh Manjummal explained the groups
about use of music in theatre and made them ready for their performance.
At 6.30 PM performances started at different places in SMS garden. The sequence of
the performance was, palam, velichenna, pullu, koonan, dramatics, varthamaanam, Isec
Newton-num njanum, chorana koora. Mr. Arun, S from CELOS, CUSAT declared as the
best actor, Ms. Vidya Vijayan from CELOS, CUSAT declared as best actress and Mr.
Sreejesh from SLS, CUSAT declared as best camper. The camp ended after evaluation at
11.00 PM.
