Bubble Fizz Crunch
On Friday we had our annual Science Fair. We combined with
students from Delegate and Goongerah/Tubbut schools. To
start the day we had a science show from visiting scientist Dr
Graham Walker. He had lots of exciting experiments and the
students were completely captivated.
Next up we had 3 different activities as part of our Science Fair:
Lava in a Cup, the Fizzinator and making honeycomb. The
students spent time rotating between each of the different
activities.
What students liked about the day: -
Jake Ashton: ‘The bottle thing because mine exploded on me.’
Mikayla Heward: ‘The whole science show because it was
funny and it had cool experiments and cannons.’
Ella Green: ‘My favourite thing at the Science Fair was when we
got to eat the honeycomb with Ms Paine and Mrs Brazel.’

From Jo’s Desk... Dear Parents and Community Members What an incredible term we have experienced, engaging our students in many academic, sporting and extracurricular activities. Our students have participated with enthusiasm in the Middle School Day and transition visit to BHS, the annual skiing program, the Hay Day Fundraising initiative, a colourful Book Week Parade and Book Fair, a yummy Vegie Crunch Day, the Science Fair and amazing science show with Dr Graham Walker, and the Regional Athletics Carnival. Our Year 6 students have participated in VALID, the annual online Science Testing program. Students also enjoyed a wonderful, interactive visit from author Gabriel Evans and great dance sessions with Miss Chloe from the Monaro Dance Centre. We were also delighted to welcome many smiling young faces to our Term 3 Kindergarten Orientation Program and look forward to a series of exciting visits in Term 4. Throughout the term, students and staff, under the new Directorship of Mrs Katie Brazel, have been auditioning, rehearsing and preparing costumes/props for the amazing production of ‘Wilbur and the Web’. We would like to thank all of those amazing people who have assisted with the creative side of production – making the dazzling costumes and props. Thank you to parents and friends who have coordinated costumes for each member of the cast and to the staff who have practiced songs and dances with the students in preparation for a great evening of entertainment. We look forward to your company tomorrow evening and hope you will enjoy the efforts of all those involved. We would like to wish Emilie and Natalie Vincent all the best as they represent our school and compete in the Interschools Equestrian events at Worrigee on 28th September – 1st October. Good luck girls and we hope you enjoy yourselves while competing.
Just recently, the fires on the edge of the township affected the Bombala community. When emergency situations arise, we are often not prepared and this can affect greatly on both adults and children. This week we have included an article, ‘Children, School Holidays and the Fire Season’, which has been sent from our school network office. Please take time to read the letter and ensure you have a Fire Plan in place.
During each school year, schools are reminded of their legal responsibilities regarding the care and safety of our students. It is mandatory for teachers, medical practitioners and police officers to report instances of alleged and /or actual child abuse. After the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse this year, the NSW government has amended the criminal law to strengthen the protection of children. Mandated reporters have a duty to protect and a duty to report alleged and/or actual abuse. It is an offence if these personnel do not protect a child from child abuse and do not report child abuse.
At the beginning of next term we will commence Child Protection lessons K-6 and Personal Development sessions with Year 5 and 6 students. Letters regarding these two programs will be sent home in the first week back. On behalf of the students and staff, I wish you all a relaxing holiday period. For those travelling over this time we hope you arrive safely at your destination. School will resume on Monday 15th October.
Until next term
Kind regards Jo
