Mooring Line Tension Monitoring
According to the Floating production system (JIP FPS mooring integrity) Health and Safety Executive 2006 Report 444:
• 50% of units in the North Sea cannot monitor line tensions in real-time • 33% of units cannot measure offsets from the no-load equilibrium position
• 78% of units do not have line failure alarms
• 67% of units do not have mooring line spares available
• 50% of units cannot adjust line lengths.
Long Term Mooring (LTM) Connectors:
• For over 20 years InterMoor have been manufacturing and installing H-Link connectors.
• InterMoor have supplied over 2000 such units globally.
• Class Approved and designed to connect chains & ropes of different sizes together .
• Installed in some of the harshest waters in the world for over 25 years.
• Provides a long term solution to mooring connections.

The Inter-M® Pulse
Graphical user interface:
• Raise alarm when a mooring line fails
• Monitor performance of mooring lines
• Monitor mooring cable creep
• Underwater cable free acoustic communication
• Ultra-low power design to extend the battery life and prolong service.
Acoustic Real-time Monitoring System
Acoustic Modem/Receivers
• Modem is proven technology with noise rejection capabilities as a basic feature.
• Using acoustic wave propagation through
the water. • Pulse have 10 years experience with these
modems. • Located at the end of both transmitter
and receiver.
• 2 modems on the Inter-M®Pulse and 1 – 3 modems on the platform.

Inter-M® Pulse Sea Trials To ensure test the technology of the Inter-M® Pulse , a 76mm (800T MBL) unit was installed on the Ocean Nomad Semisubmersible in the North Sea during the winter of 2011/12 for a six month drilling campaign.
Mooring System - Chain and fibre makeup
- Installed at the fibre/shackle connection.
Trial Location - Everest 22/10a
- Operator was BG.
Conditions & Results - Sea-states of around 12m
- Inter-M® Pulse sent accurate line tensions and inclination readings to the control room.
Inter-M® Pulse Sea Trials The Inter-M® Pulse was installed over a stern roller.
The units are designed for MODU and/or FPSO installation.
After a successful installation, the unit was immediately operational and feeding line tensions and inclination readings to the surface.
The readings have since been verified and documented.

Inter-M® Pulse ROV Trial Recently, as part of a client requirement, a subsea trail was undertaken to ensure the Inter-M® Pulse could be used long-term in permanent mooring systems.
Mooring System - Chain and chain makeup
Trial Location -The Underwater Centre, Fort William, Scotland (ROV Centre)
Trial Results
-Inter-M® Pulse sent accurate line tensions and inclination readings to the control room and the logger/batteries were removed and replaced by the Neptune ROV.
Inter-M® Pulse
Key Benefits on a MODU & FPSO
• Full history of mooring line
• Acoustic data transmission
• On-demand data upload
• Traffic light alarm system
• Stern roller and/or ‘A’ Frame installation
• Suitable for moored FPSO and MODU
• Post-hurricane information system that saves
inspection time and costs.
