RISE, is a Holston Conference United Methodist Women’s community mission event that will give women an opportunity to learn more about what it means to serve Christ in mission, to work on a hands-on mission project(s) and to worship and fellowship together.
This event follows the United Methodist Women’s purpose:
United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
Out of the Purpose are four mission foci that relate to the mission initiatives and priorities of United Methodist Women.

Katie Pryor Maternal Child Health, United Methodist Women, National Executive Director of GO Camp, North Texas Conference
Katie Pryor is a recent graduate from Southern Methodist University – Perkins School of
Theology, Master of Divinity with an Urban Ministry Concentration. Katie Pryor serves in
the role of Maternal Child Health with United Methodist Women, National. As well is in
ministry with the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church as the Executive
Director of GO Camp, which serves underserved communities by bringing the camp
experience to the local communities of the North Texas Conference.
Pryor is from El Paso, Texas, now currently living in Dallas. She is a member of St. Luke
Community UMC, in the North Texas Annual Conference. She holds a Bachelor of Science
degree in sports science from Texas State University in San Marcos. Her roots serve deep in
methodism from, US-2 Missionary, UMC Camps, Methodist Children’s Home, UMW Faith and Justice Educator
Intern.
Raised Baptist, she came into the United Methodist circle her junior year in high school through the Youth School
of Theology at the Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University, Dallas. She became deeply
involved with United Methodist programs and groups, including UMW, Black Methodists for Church Renewal, and
General Board of Global Ministries. She credits mentors for "dropping bread crumbs of spiritual motivation for me
along the way. I didn't always know why I was doing some of the things and programs that I had been involved in
initially. But it dawned on me that I was happiest working with and seeing youth develop. And I started to feel that
maybe God was calling me to work with children and youth."
*** RISE Musicians ***
ADORATION
Adoration are worship leaders, musicians, and song writers from around the East TN area who formed together in 2017 to lead worship for Adoration 2017 (a large worship gathering created by college students seeking to bring together 1,000 churches to worship Christ and engage in a vision to Restore Appalachia from drug abuse). After Adoration 2017, they were hired by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association to lead worship with David Crowder, Aaron Shust, and Ellie Holcomb at the Tri-Cities Region Will Graham Celebration. Adoration loves playing contemporary worship music and traditional music! We are sure you will love them too!

Bishop Mary Virginia Taylor
Bishop Taylor served 30 years as a member of the Holston Conference in both rural and urban settings. It was in her fifth year as Cleveland District Superintendent that Mary Virginia Taylor was elected to the episcopacy in July 2004. On September 1, 2004 she became the first woman to serve as Bishop of The Columbia Area (South Carolina Annual Conference) in The United Methodist Church. On September 1, 2012 she was reappointed to the Holston Conference of The United Methodist Church where she is also the first woman to serve as Resi-dent Bishop of the Holston Conference.
Bishop Taylor and her husband, Reverend Rusty Taylor, are parents to two daughters. Their oldest daughter, Mandy, is married to Kyle Young and she is a pastor in the South Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church. Kyle and Mandy are the parents of the Taylor’s four grandchildren, Daisy, Grayson, Campbell and Wesley. Their youngest daughter, Tiffany, is a 2009 graduate of the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, where she resides.
*** RISE Hands-On Mission Project ***
There are three opportunities to serve toward maternal and child health. 1. Bring hand-made baby blankets, size 30 X 30. They can be knitted, crocheted, quilted, or any other craft form. Blankets will be distributed and taken back to children’s hospitals across the Holston conference. 2. Bring a baby bottle, with a liner, filled with change (or bills). Funds raised will go toward the maternal
and child health ministry. 3. On Saturday afternoon of RISE we will make baby blankets. Please bring scissors for this project.

Retreat sessions will be held at MainStay Suites, 410 Pine Mountain Road, Pigeon Forge. Take Hwy. 441 to traffic light #6 in Pigeon Forge. Turn right onto Pine Mountain Road, hotel is 1/2 mile on the right.
Registration begins at 5:00 p.m. Gathering & music begins on Friday night, 7:00 p.m. Lunch will be provided on Saturday before the hands-on mission project.

Event Site Childcare for ages 3-10 will be available. The absolute deadline for childcare is April 12th. We cannot accept childcare registrations after April 12th. Forms for childcare are available online at holstonumw.org. Please return form with your registration.

A block of rooms are available at the MainStay Suites at a special rate of $157.85/room (includes taxes), including a complimentary breakfast. These rooms can easily accommodate up to 4 persons.
