28 06 BIM project
Ø “BIM Components Strategic Recommenda6ons” conference held in Roca Barcelona Gallery in February 2.013 strongly introduces the BIM concept and triggers the need to be present as BIM manufacturers.
Ø BIM is coming… • United Kingdom In June 2011, the UK government published "Building Informa6on Modeling (BIM) Working Party Strategy", where the government announced its inten6on to require all 3D BIM in construc6on projects from 2016. • Norway BIM is essen6al for major infrastructure and all government buildings. From 2014 all newly built hospitals should be carried out using the latest version of openBIM (IFC). • United States Since 2007, the General Services Administra6on requires that the geometric defini6on and spa6al construc6on projects are managed by BIM format. The Corps of the Navy (USACE) demands the same from 2008. • Singapore The Building and Construc6on Authority has a roadmap for BIM that pushes its construc6on industry to be using BIM widely by 2015.

29 06 BIM project
Main objec9ves Ø Select a representa6ve short list of 50 products to be used in the pilot project.
Ø Create BIM objects of these products using both Revit and ArchiCAD formats.
Ø Evaluate the quality of the BIM objects produced and ensure they are built in a professional format that can be used by all users.
Ø Acquire the knowledge to produce the objects in-‐house with the op6mum quality standards.
Ø Control the ownership of our products’ objects and distribute channels to the users.
Ø Make the most from the experience to decide on how to face the massive produc6on of BIM objects in terms of internal specifica6ons and meta-‐data automated popula6on from ECM database
Ø Define the strategy for the mid and long term produc6on of objects: internal vs. external and the partners to choose.

Lessons learnt
• Define the BIM components specifica6on needs (“Roca Group BIM”)
• Define the strategy to create, maintain, distribute and control the ownership of the components
• Acquire the know-‐how to produce the components in-‐house
• Obtain an es6ma6on of costs and 6me to produce large number of BIM components
Key strategic decisions
• Iden6fy metadata source and build the procedures to populate objects.
• Iden6fy 3D files resources and adapt them for proper geometry compa6bility.
• Validate the quality of the components in a professional environment
• Define object distribu6on methodology or use publishing plagorms.
• Use metrics to analyze downloads and ROI.
