jIDAY, APRIL 10, 1936 rEASTER
(By Etta W. Brantley)When the leaves are new on the
oaken "spray,And the maples have donned their
scarlet array,When wildflowers in little com-
panies rise,Where April's warmest sunshine lies.
When bluebirds sing in the appletree,
A hymn with the buzzing of the bee,And the scent of violets comes in
my door,I know spring is here once more.
When the Easter sparrow chants hersong,
To the idle flower, asleep so long,And the south wind whispers, soft
and low,I think of an Easter long ago.
When I was a girl, so happy andgay,
Not a cloud along life's way,But the story is old, and sad, some-
how,No one would care to hear it nowBut you remember well, I know,That lovely Easter of long ago.
