Geography played an important role
in the rise of Roman civilization.
• Where is Rome? • Name & shape of peninsula?
Sea?• Relative location to other
countries?• What mountain range is to the
North?• Compare the terrain of Rome to
Greece. Did it support farming?
![Page 3: Romanreview sol6a d-2011_gibson](https://reader037.vdocument.in/reader037/viewer/2022110302/5465d137af79597e288b4aed/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
• Italy is a boot-shaped country centrally located in the Mediterranean Sea. Rome is near the center of the western side of Italian peninsula.
• The Alps are mountains at
• Italy’s northern border.
• The toe of the boot points toward the island of Sicily (and Carthage in N. Africa).
• Italy’s flat terrain was easier to farm than the mountainous terrain of Greece, so Italy could support more people.(Greeks had to colonize for farmland).
