Faith does not say—vs. 6, 7

Deuteronomy 30:12–14—the word of faith that Paul preached

Confess—to make open and free acknowledgment of or declaration of (to profess)

The word in thy mouth is that Jesus is Lord. No Jew would do this who did not really believe Christ was Lord, for kurios in the LXX is used for Yahweh, and no Gentile would do it, unless he had stopped worshipping the emperor as kurios. Declaring that Jesus is kurios, or Lord, put both groups in jeopardy. Using the word kurios required true faith, and that is why Paul could say that by doing this, one would be saved. You were risking your life to say so.

The government of Eritrea has officially recognized the Oriental Orthodox, Sunni Islam, the Eritrean Catholic

Church, and the Evangelical Lutheran church. To be recognized, the denomination is required to undergo a

registration process. Among other things, the religious group must submit personal information on their membership to be allowed to worship. The government is against what it deems as reformed or radical versions of its established religions. Therefore, alleged radical forms of Islam and

Christianity, Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and numerous other non-Protestant evangelical

denominations are not registered and cannot worship freely. Three Jehovah’s Witnesses are known to be imprisoned

since 1994, along with 51others.
