Summer Term 2016
Dear Parents,
I feel slightly bereft this week without the usual background, however I hope that you
are now able to read my scrawl a little better. It is amazing what I have been able to get
away with writing all this time!
We had a fantastic Ski Trip during the holidays. My thanks to Mr and Mrs Netherway,
Mrs Flynn, Miss Brennan and Mrs Thompson who gave up their holidays to accompany
children and parents on what is now an annual and much sought after trip. Watch out
for Montgenevre 2017 coming soon.
A hot and steamy Trinity pool was the venue for our swimmers on Thursday night and
whilst my beloved Liverpool were trying to throw away some European glory I was
lucky enough see some excellent individual and team performances. Well done to all
involved and thank you to all those who supported on the night.
I look forward to seeing many of you on Sunday as we welcome 400 children to school
for the inaugural Restless Triathlon. There is still time for some last minute sponsorship
to ensure that every child has raised the minimum requirement for entry of £50….some
have raised considerably more and all donations are very gratefully received.
Best wishes
Mr James C Thompson

Bobby Davro in Surprise Appearance at Sold Out 1853 Society Comedy Night!
Over 200 family with their friends and supporters of Royal Russell and The 1853 Society had a spectacular evening at the end of last term. Our sense of anticipation was heightened by the surprise announcement of a guest appearance of comedy legend Bobby Davro.
Comedienne compare, Sally Ann Hayward, kept control: Sally Anne was joined by Phil Reid, Paul Ricketts and Phil Butler – all highly talented comedians. We have Sally Anne to thank for establishing what will get us adults a detention: Our Headmasters did come in for a bit of scrutiny…. and only the brave dared to heckle, or for that matter to sit at the front!
Evenings as good as these don’t happen by themselves, the committee would like to thank our three corporate sponsors and of course Joke Club for putting on one terrific show! My thanks to the 1853 Society committee for their hard work: It is an honour to deliver events to appeal to a wide cross section of our community - that involve family and friends: what more can that say about how we value our School. Although having a great time is our main objective, the evening will have made a substantial contribution to the pavilion fund. Thank you!

Year 4 Trip to Hampton Court
On the 21st march 2016, Year 4 set off to visit Hampton Court. While we were travelling it was rush hour, which was very exciting but also a bit squishy! Once at Hampton Court, we met our tour guide Jake. Jake told us lots of things, such as how they had built Hampton Court and how it had changed over the years. Jake mainly discussed with us all about Tudor Exploration and how their view of the world changed lots and lots. We learnt about the importance of trade as well. Later we saw Henry VIII apartments, old furniture, tapestries and fancy chandeliers that were lit with candles! We also visited the royal dining hall and the kitchens where there was a huge fireplace that had meat being cooked on it. We also got to see Henry VIII’s chapel and inside there was a replica of Henry VIII’s sparkly crown. Our last sight was the gardens and wow were they spectacular, there were trees shaped like mushrooms, fountains, tennis courts and animals. We could also see the River Thames too. We had a wonderful trip! Written by Andrew Pavalarajancroos
During school hours, we are required to ensure the safeguarding of all pupils. Any parents on site between 8.30am and 3.15pm need to be signed in and
accompanied by a member of staff.
With this in mind, it would be most appreciated if you could leave the school premises after handing your child over in the morning and wait in the front lobby
or at the front of the school until your child’s designated collection times after school.
Breakfast Club is Open from 7.45am for any children who need to arrive at school
before 8.15am. At 8.15am the Breakfast Club staff team leave the dining hall to supervise the children outside and take them to classes and are therefore unable to supervise any later breakfast arrivals. If you wish your child to have breakfast
please ensure they arrive by 8am.
