STAFF RESIGNATION
January 2, 2017
After 19 years as organist of FBCR, I offer my resignation effective Febru-
ary 26, 2017. The years of partnering with you in worship have been remark-
able for me. I am grateful for the relationship of trust that has developed over
the years between organist and congregation. I am thankful for memorable
and meaningful experiences through worship, weddings, funerals and sea-
sons.
However, I feel the need to change some priorities and simplify my sched-
ule. Billy and I plan to stay active participants and supporters at FBCR. Every
blessing and good wish to you as we continue to serve and worship together,
though in a different capacity.
Gratefully,
Terry Honeycutt

PASTOR’S COLUMN
They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and fellowship, to the
breaking of bread and the prayers. Awe came upon everyone, because
many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles. All who be-
lieved were together and had all things in common; they would sell their
possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had
need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they
broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts,
praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day
the Lord added to their number those who were being saved. (Acts 2:42-
47, NRSV) I have always loved to use my imagination. Even as an analytical per-
son, the imagination can be an exciting tool to develop new ideas, to
think about new possibilities or to merely entertain. While other children
were outside playing or into other things, I loved to write my own sto-
ries. I probably watched too much TV, but I would write stories that
were futuristic hybrids of James Bond, Indiana Jones, Star Wars and Star
Trek. I would also make up stories about superheroes. To this day, I love
to hear my own children or other children come and tell me about things
that interest them. As I got older, I loved to dream up strategies for sports
and other interests that I had.
Our imaginations are gifts. When used properly, they help us to see
things that are not there. They help us to envision what could be. And,
they also help us to see how to get from what is to what is not yet. For
some reason, church never was a subject of my imagination. I remember
one time I got in trouble with my mom for using her tape recorder and
microphone to pretend I was preaching – never did that again! Another
time I used crackers and Kool Aid to pretend I was doing the Lord’s Sup-
per and got in trouble – never did that again! And, I used to get in trouble
for mimicking our Minister of Music as he directed the hymns.
That said, it is easy to get in a rut when it comes to church. It’s easy to
allow things to get stale. That’s when it is necessary to use our imagina-
tions to remind us of what could be when we think of church.
Over the next four Sundays I am preaching a series of messages titled
Re-Imagine Church. In this series, I will address Purpose, Prayer, Partici-
pation and Passion. Have you ever asked yourself what you would like to
see happen at church? When we address these topics, we can begin to see
what really is the core of church and how we can use the resources we’ve
been given to be the kind of church we are called to be and do the work
we are called to do. I hope that you will join us!
2017 will be a great year!
Grace and peace,
Tim

The Morning Prayer/Lord’s Prayer Tim Marsh
Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil:
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever.
Amen. *Hymn of Offertory 250 “Living Stones” ST. ANNE
