Children learn language bylistening and being involved in

the conversation. The morewords you share with your

child through everyday speech, the more ready they'll be torecognize words when theyread. Discuss what you are

doing together, what you havedone, and what you will do.

Singing helps your childunderstand how words are

broken down. Singingdifferent speeds, clapping

along, and substituting wordswill help them hear the soundswithin each word. Try singingat least one song every day,and making it a part of your

routine tasks together.

Reading with your children willshow them how books work and

get them familiar with text. Itwill also help them understand

the world around them andexpand their vocabulary.

Children who are read to growto love reading on their own.

Reading and writing are aperfect match! Practicing

tracing letters and shapes, andmaybe even drawing them ontheir own, will help developyour child's fine motor skills

and prepare them tounderstand that letters stand

for the sounds they hear.

Playing isn't just for fun - it helps yourchild learn to express themselves and solve

problems. It also helps children thinksymbolically, so they can see words andthoughts can represent real experiences

and physical objects.

HELP YOUR CHILD GETREADY TO READ!
