P4 Overview
Hello P4!
We hope this letter finds you safe and well. We’re sure you’re being great listeners and doing as you’re asked to do. Stay home, stay safe.
We just wanted to let you know we really miss you. Life is not the same without you. We are missing all the fun and laughter that we have on a daily basis.
We have got some activities for you to work on until June. We know that your daily routine will be totally different to when you’re in school. We have given a timetable to suggest and promote routine. Don’t worry if you don’t get everything completed every day, we know things aren’t normal.
We can’t wait to see you all again.
Love, Miss Magrath and Miss Gibson
P4 Overview
Notes for Parents
This is a framework of suggested activities across the curriculum. There is a balance and breadth across the various areas of learning.
A weekly timetable is suggested to promote routine. It uses general practices to promote commonality of learning to make life as easy as is possible under the present circumstances.
The maths programme may be tailored to the child's needs - go up a level if necessary or down a level if reinforcement needed. (My Maths/Whiterose)
We understand that some children will find some activities difficult. . If your child is not on the shown Mental Arithmetic book, please continue to work through a day at a time.
Every child should be able to find appropriate activities to suit her/him.
Given pressure for computer use in the family home, activities are designed to be staggered as much as possible in the case of Numeracy (White Rose activities can be downloaded and printed) but collaborative in other areas. This means that apart from Numeracy, children may study the same subjects and can work together.
Children should be encouraged to practise 'each one teach one' - older children help younger ones in craft activities as well as table activities, spellings, shared or guided reading. Older children should be encouraged to view themselves as 'educators' and mentors as appropriate - 'by teaching, we learn'
An attempt has been made to keep the activities as practical as possible using resources like junk materials and everyday materials: an exercise book/paper and ordinary stationery is all that is needed.
The plan is designed to be flexible to enable families to take full advantage of the changing seasons, weather and holidays.
Outdoor learning is encouraged as much as is possible given that everyone has different circumstances. There is a focus on the local environment, flora, fauna.
YouTube and Pinterest are recommended for make and do instructions and ideas but it must be stressed that adult supervision will be necessary to monitor the child's use of these aids.

This is a broad guide to shaping your school day; routines are good for promoting discipline and independence in learning. Of course, the break down is a guide only and may be adapted to suit individual needs; every family's circumstances will be different.
Most of the core learning should take place in the morning. Afternoons are best suited to areas of the curriculum other than Numeracy and Literacy but by necessity there will be some overlap in subject areas. No end time is recorded on the timetable as some activities will be completed quickly, others are more open-ended. If an activity is going well and children are absorbed in it, then run with it and make up other subjects at another time. It will be useful to print out the weekly plans and highlight the activities as they are completed. Get outdoors as much as is possible, build dens, notice the world around, encourage questions, intersperse sedentary activities with physical ones, skip, time runs, do
a daily mile, set personal bests etc.
*Numeracy – Click on the links and it will take you directly to the document/activity/game. These can then be printed if needed. *Mental Maths Games – continue to work on your counting. You can use some of the activities you’ve previously completed
P4 Overview
Please carefully follow the page numbers given. There will be some material which your child will not have covered yet. This will be covered upon the return to school.
