    2) Approval of February meeting minutes; moved and seconded

    3) Guest Speakers- United Way and Colorado Shares (Mike Garvey and Erin Atwell)

    a. United Way spent $29 million on the community last year. They are currently in a requestfor proposal process as $36 million has been requested this year, but United Way cancurrently only give $8 million right now. Big projects currently underway include thefollowing:

    i. Bridge Project

ii. School of Readiness initiative which makes sure that kids can read at the 3rd gradelevel by the end of third grade.

iii. Youth Success initiative which is a bridging the gap program which helps fosteryouth advance out of the system.

iv. Adult self-sufficiency programb. Colorado Shares represented on behalf of Partnership for Colorado which has partnered with

DU for over 20 years. Erin requested that SAC members assist with getting the word outabout the campaign which ends on the 15th of March. The Partnership raises about $2 millioneach year, with the average donation being approximately $1 a day or $5 a week.

    c. Think about causes that are important to you. You can donate via payroll deduction post tax,but the donation is tax deductible. The payroll deduction is from April 1- end of the year.

    d. The two charities represent more than 300 non-profits. If you want to donate to a non-profitnot listed, GuideStart will give you a companys EIN and you can write in a company.

    e. In prior years 250-300 people have contributed from DU, but this year only 35 people havesigned up to date.

    f. Benefits of giving through the campaign versus writing a check directly to the charity- youcan donate using payroll deduction and you can be introduced to new non-profits through thewebsites.

    g. What is the overhead?- For United Way, 85% of every dollar raised goes back to thecommunity. The 15% that doesnt go to pad offices; it goes towards reinvesting in grantwork within the organization and partners. CO Shares only retains 10% of the fundsdonated.

    h. How are funds disbursed to non-profits?- Partnership for CO distributes funds quarterly in a

lump sum. United Way distributes funds $250 at a time. If designated funds dont hit $250,they will be disbursed in June and December.
