2016), BIMUN has a high reputation among successful students and relevant institutions and

international organizations. The BIMUN conference contributes to promotion of diplomatic

skills and principles and their use in practice. BIMUN is prepared by the best participants of

“After 12 years of organizing BIMUN conferences, the UNA Serbia has progressed so much

that now we have two separate BIMUN conferences – one for university students and BIMUN

Junior, for high school students. BIMUN has reached a high level in education through

modeling. In the future it is necessary to continue to develop the project as an all­year­long

activity through the preparative phase, the BIMUN conference and the BIMUN Plus project for

the best participants. We would also like to have BIMUN as an activity that is recognized by

faculties and also to be able to find strategic partners for financing BIMUN. Of course the main

focus in on the simulation quality at BIMUN. I am most certain that BIMUN has a good

perspective and that it will be affirmed as an important way of learning how to solve

international problems.”

Besides law, she is also interested in literature, languages,

music and skiing. She is proud to be a part of the BIMUN world,

because she has a chance to work with very ambitious and

Security Council Crisis CommitteeStudies International Relations at the Faculty of

Political Science. She sees herself as a responsible,

self­confident and persistent person, motivated to study

and progress. She likes traveling and meeting new

people and cultures. Her academic interests are:

Psychology and Sociology.

Science. Her academic interests are also Human Rights

and International Security and she believes that hard

reason oriented and analytical, but also greatly enjoy

creative things like writing and drawing; constantly

growing and learning are her everlasting goals; she

has an optimistic view of the future.

Student of International Relations at the Faculty of

Political Sciences. He has much MUN and other

international event experiences. Interested in Middle

Eastern and African regions in a fields of human security

and problem management. He sees environmental

problems as a key issue that needs to be managed

properly, otherwise humanity will be faced with those

problems in a future also.

Student of International Relations at the Faculty of

Political Sciences, University of Belgrade. Her MUN

experience begun in her junior year of high school while

she was on the exchange program in Colorado. With

BIMUN and UNA Serbia she has brought her

commitment to the values of the United Nations on a

higher level. Her main interests are poverty eradication,

cultural diplomacy and peace studies.

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals are transformative and universal, and they willdemand action from all partners, including young people. I am also pleased that the SecurityCouncil recently passed a landmark resolution on Youth, Peace and Security. That meansyoung peacebuilders have the full support of the United Nations. Young people have thegreatest stake in the future so you must have a voice in building it. These agreements openup promising new horizons for our common progress. At the same time, our gains and hopesare threatened by the conflicts, exploitation and despair that characterize much of today’sglobal landscape. Violent extremists are carrying out appalling crimes. Fighting is forcingpeople from their homes and destroying the lives of millions of young people like you. Somecountries are putting up new barriers, both physical and legal, to prevent refugees fromentering.  Some people are stoking fear and hatred. Huge sums of money continue to besquandered on weapons of war, while life­saving humanitarian programmes struggle forresources. The United Nations stands with the vulnerable. Every day, we strive to make adifference: delivering food; providing clean water and healthcare; promoting equal rights; advancing the empowerment of women and girls; bringing enemies together around apeace table; helping countries build effective institutions and move towards prosperity andstability. By taking part in this Model United Nations, you are demonstrating yourcommitment to peace, justice, human rights and human dignity.  I hope this Conference willcontinue to inspire you to be a lifelong global citizen."

The Republic of Serbia attaches great importance to thecooperation within the United Nations system. The challenges ofour time go beyond state borders and call for common solutions.The numerous, lasting achievements of the United Nations havelaid a foundation, but also created a responsibility for all of us tocontinuously affirm our readiness and collective determination todo more and better in the promotion of peace and sustainable

development, and above all, to ensure adherence to theprinciples of the UN Charter.

 The “BIMUN” international conference contributes actively torecognition of the goals and values the UN stands for by young

people. As in the previous years, BIMUN will discuss globaltopics that are of priority importance for all Member States of theUnited Nations.to eradicate poverty, particularly the extreme kind,and to lay foundations for sustainable development on our planet,

for the benefit of future generations – for your benefit.

We live in an era of extraordinary technological advances that, for the first time in the history of humankind,offer every country and individual an opportunity for sustainable development. The Republic of Serbia firmlybelieves that peace and stability are a prerequisite for the development and, as an EU candidate country,

places particular emphasis on the goals pertaining to poverty eradication, sustainable economic developmentand employment, the building of infrastructure and industrialization, ensuring healthy living conditions for

persons of all ages, free and quality elementary and secondary education for all and gender equality.Through joint efforts, coordination, mutual respect and appreciation, it is possible to overcome the threats and

challenges we are all facing.At a time of constant change, the importance of the United Nations for sustainable development, peace andcommon prosperity remains immutable. The future is dependent on our investment into the present, into the

development and preservation of the environment we live in. Sustainable development should meet theneeds of present generations and create conditions for the advancement of succeeding generations.  

Pursuing sustainable development goals and raising awareness of their importance, your generation has ahistoric opportunity to steer the civilization towards development, peace and prosperity. I am certain that you

will be able to use this historic opportunity to bring the world we live in closer to the ideals of the UN’sarchitects. I wish you every success in your work and the realization of this important project.  

"At BIMUN 2016 delegates of the Security Council quickly reached an agreement

that Boko Haram indeed is a great threat to regional security with a way of

becoming a global one. However, on their way to finding solution, they

encountered many problems that had to be addressed, starting with funding of

Boko Haram, child exploitation for military purposes, internally displaced people,

and ending with problem of finding a consensus on how should the international

community react, yet not breach sovereignty and territorial integrity of Nigeria. It

is important they also recognized that terrorism will not be defeated by military

force, law enforcement measures, and intelligence operations alone, and that for

long­term solutions education, economic growth, human rights, good governance

and rule of law have the crucial role. Security Council acknowledged that there is

no need to establish a new peace­enforcement intervention, and that

international community should only further support already existing Multinational

Joint Task Force (MJTF) through training, advising, equipment providing and

intelligence sharing. BIMUN 2016 delegates of the Security Council really

showed amazing understanding of the United Nations and their system. They

also embraced economic and social problems, realizing that they are a root

cause of continuing security threat posed by Boko Haram. The Presidency of the

committee is honestly proud to have run the council."  

"The Security Council Crisis Committee was working very hard during the BIMUN

conference. We are especially proud of our delegates who were supposed to act in

extreme situations of unpredictable crisis scenarios. They showed enthusiasm,

passion, but also patience until we had reached the final solution and adopted the

exceptional resolution. Our resolution is one comprehensive, meaningful document,

definitely resolving many aspects of the Kurdish question. It gives solutions for Kurds

in Syria, brief possible directions for resolving the problem with Turkey and additional

operative clauses concerning Kurdish population in Iraq and Iran. Recognizing the

autonomous region in the North of Syria, gives the Kurds the autonomy regarding

their right to self­determination. Creating the buffer zones, one between the borders

of Turkey and Syria with the peace keeping mission with UN mandate on the Syrian

side, the other one between Kurdish regions in Syria and Iraq with the Syrian and

Iraqi armies on both sides, it also invites representatives of Kurds on Geneva peace

talks. The Resolution calls for negotiations within the NATO in order to guarantee the

Turkish respect of the buffer zone."

"Between 17th and 19th March, the Economic and Social Council gathered its

members to discuss the implementation of 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The

member states had done their very best to address all the key issues, create

strategies, as well as find the means to finance them. Despite the shaky start of the

first day and clear variation in the member states’ priorities (which had left behind

some delegations frustrated), the debate was dynamic and continuous. From hunger,

women’s rights and education to clean energy, sustainable cities and clean water, no

stones had been left unturned. Lobbying efforts were in full force throughout the

second day. Any bumps that showed up along the way were overcome with

astonishing determination, consequently, the drafted resolution was met with great

enthusiasm. The final document was accepted by all present member states. An

achievement that was soon after celebrated with a dance and the laughs. Concluding

with the words of Secretary­General Ban Ki­Moon: “We are the first generation that

can end poverty – and the last generation to tackle climate change before it’s too

late.” It is our responsibility to build the world we want."

"Human Rights Council had a very fruitful and interesting debate. Delegates were

outstanding, with a wide knowledge regarding current international issues. Their

ability to find possible solutions on the refugee crisis in Europe is just fascinating

and here are some of the proposed solutions: to allow refugees to get a

temporary contract of work for a short­term period within  refugee camps in order

to properly integrate them in the system; member states should promote honest

and effective dialogue around the refugee crisis, emphasizing the role and

responsibility of political leaders, parliamentarians, civil society and the media to

this end, as well as encouraging governments to take proper legal action against

those who take part in anti­refugee discrimination and violence; there should be

a program that would provide help and support for the reintegration of returnees

to countries’ of origins, with the aim to enable returnees to engage in productive

employment and decent work in their home countries; There was a lot of laugh

and fun during our meetings. Social events were also special because our

delegates were among the most cheerful ones, always dancing and singing

and rarely without a smile on their faces."

"For the second time at BIMUN, the UN Environment Assembly had very successful

outcomes. Delegates managed to put their differences aside and to agree about

fundamental values that our humanity is faced with. Water is certainly one of those

things that we need to thing about as a common resource that is needed by

everyone. That very fact, that is needed by everyone, often brings us to challenge

our common humanity and to take care just about our individual interests. But, at

this UNEA session, we managed to show that care for common principles and

values still exists. Knowing that, we will try to keep it that way because it is proven

more then once that by caring for others, we care for ourselves at the same time. In

this case, by caring for good water management, we care for sustainable world as

well. This year's UNEA secretariat expresses its deep gratitude for all proposals that

made this resolution so strong and realistic. We hope that, just as this issue, other

problems that exist in our natural world will soon also be resolved." 

"On BIMUN 2016 UNESCO World Heritage Committee discussed the topic

protection of heritage in areas threatened by extremists. This topic is currently of

the utmost importance for the World Heritage Committee and UNESCO and

delegates on BIMUN took it very seriously. Good preparation was the base of

debates and informal consultations. Delegates gave very concreate proposals for

the solution to the problem in question as well as examples of good and bad

practice to strengthen their arguments. After inspiring opening speeches, the list of

speakers was open and general debate started. Starting with potential creation of

safe zones around heritage sites in danger from extremists and how would this be

possible, debate continued with ways of using education as a long term solution to

the problem. Restauration of destroyed sites was also a topic under discussion as

well as providing financial and legal framework for action and international court

for trials for the heritage destruction. Fruitful debates resulted in two draft

statements to be discussed in substantive debate. After many speakers and a lot

of questions and comments, followed by informal consultations, compromise was

made and delegates agreed to have only one statement on the floor for further

discussion. Great cooperation was shown from the authors of both draft

statements when they decided to amend one of the statements in order to merge

their ideas in one document."

enjoyed the activities outside the committee

sessions ­ to be on the dance floor three

nights in a row was something I never

the lack of sleep! I also like the ECOSOC

committee's spirit of dancing in particular. All
