MISSION STATEMENT St. Januarius is a Roman Catholic community

of faith focused on the life and teachings of

Jesus Christ. We are grateful to those who have

built up St. Januarius to be a welcoming,

active, and spiritual parish. With the Eucharist

and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit,

we strive to use the gifts and talents given to us

by the Father to support the lives of

parishioners at all age levels and stages of life.

We also pledge to live our lives so that through

our words and actions all may feel the presence

of Jesus Christ in the world today.

MEETINGS COMING UP

Overeaters Anonymous - Tuesday, Sept. 1. Con-tact Sherry @ 412-795-4897 Pastoral Council - August 31 All meetings are held at 7:00 pm in

the Church Hall.

Our annual Pork Roast Dinner will be held on Sunday, September 13. Extra raffle tickets are available in the church office. Labor Day Mass will be 9:00 a.m. Seeking teacher(s) for the CCD program. As well as any adult or young teen who would like to help as an aide or substitute teacher. Thank you Michael Langhorst and Ray Valotta for all your hard work for the Pirate game. Everyone enjoyed themselves. If you, or someone you know, has questions about Jesus or the Catholic Church, and is not baptized, bap-tized in Protestant faith, or have not made their Holy Communion or Confirmation, please contact Fr. Ken.

May God’s perfect peace and love remain with you always! ~ Fr. Ken

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: If in our heart there is no mercy, no joy of forgiveness, we are not in communion with God, even if we observe all of his precepts, for it is love that saves, not the practice of precepts alone. It is love of God and neighbor that brings fulfillment to all the commandments. And this is the love of God, his joy: forgiveness. He waits for us always! Maybe someone has some heaviness in his heart: “But, I did this, I did that3.” He expects you! He is your father: he waits for you always!

~ Angelus address, September 15, 2013

SUPPLY REQUEST

Dear Friends, I cannot thank you enough for your kindness and generosity to our CCD program! St. Januarius is truly a spe-cial and blessed place. Your outpour-ing of support--both with supplies and prayers--is overwhelming and much ap-preciated!! There were some sup-plies without the name of the ‘angels’ who donated them. I would like to per-sonally thank you for your help.

We are currently seek-ing substitute teach-ers, and aides for our CCD Program.

Saints and Special Observances Thursday: St. Gregory the Great - Ordained a priest, he became one of the pope's seven deacons, and also served six years in the East as papal representative in Constantinople. He was recalled to become abbot, and at the age of 50 was elected pope by the clergy and people of Rome. He removed unworthy priests from office, forbade taking money for many services, emptied the papal treasury to ransom prisoners of the Lombards and to care for persecuted Jews and the victims of plague and famine. He is known for his reform of the liturgy, for strengthening respect for doctrine. Whether he was largely responsible for the revision of “Gregorian” chant is disputed.
