NATIVITIES BLESSING
The weekend of January 7-8, 2017 is the celebration of the feast
of the Epiphany of the Lord. Again this year, in honor of this
feast, parishioners are invited to bring your family’s nativity to
any Mass for a special blessing. Please arrive early to Mass to
place your nativity at the altar. The Blessing will take place
during the Mass. After Mass, you will remove your nativity from
the altar and take it home. Also, Father Nick will again host an
open house at the rectory to view his extensive collection of
nativities, following all Masses. Join us in this joyful way to
celebrate the Christmas Season!
A FAMILY PRAYER BEFORE THE MANGER
Loving God, as we stand before this manger, help us to make a
place for your Son in our home and in our hearts. Help us to
welcome him by being kind to one another and reaching out to
those who need us. We thank you for the great gift of Jesus, in
whose name we pray. Amen
A NEW YEAR; A NEW CATHOLIC TRANSCRIPT
Beginning late January 2017, the Catholic Transcript newspaper
will be transformed into a full color magazine, which will be sent
for free to more that 192,000 Catholic households in Hartford,
New Haven and Litchfield counties. The new publication will
dynamically advance the tradition of a beloved, respected, award-
winning newspaper with roots dating back to 1829.
In magazine format, the Catholic Transcript will continue to be
the communications centerpiece of Catholic news and information
for our archdiocesan family of faith. Its visibility and relevance
will be greatly enhanced thanks to its digital presence, social
media interconnectivity, evangelizing content, and distribution 10
times a year to more than double the number of Catholic
households than in the recent past.
The Catholic Transcript’s transformation is in direct response to
the Office of Pastoral Planning’s Your Voice Counts survey.
PASTOR’S CORNER... Along with the entire staff here at St. Thomas, I extend to each of
you and to your loved ones best wishes for a Blessed Christmas.
May the peace and the joy of the newborn Christ-child fill your
hearts on this most holy day and throughout the coming New
Year! Please accept a copy of Matthew Kelly’s latest work
‘Resisting Happiness’ as our gift to you. Reading it myself I was
amazed at all the ways we continually resist being happy, while at
the same time, not being able to understand why we are not as
happy as we would like to be. Together, may we bring to our
world the happiness that our Savior has brought for us all.
Fr. Nick
