Sample Crafting and Refining The following are simple crafting projects that can be carried out to learn the basics of the system. You can use the examples on the following pages to acquire all the materials for an item and assemble it. The following is an expanded example of the full process: Seonidecidesthatshe’dliketogetabetterApprentice’sChargedStaffthanthebasic+0oneshe’sbeenusing.Asastarterweapon,itonlyhastheveryfirstkeyword,Arcane,andshe’sleveledseveralofherstaffattacksuptolevel2oreven3;a+2staffwouldactivatetheadditionalkeywordsonherattacksandmakethemdomoredamageandhavebettereffects. TheApprentice’sChargedStaffisanArtificerrecipethatrequiresrank1(likealltherecipesbelow,it’sadefaultrecipethat’sautomaticallyawardedonattainingtherightrank),soshebuysonerankofArtificer.Sheclicksthedoorbehindthetrainertoopenthecraftinginterfaceforthatskill,andseestheRecipeinthelist.Selectingitopenstherequirementson the right side. She sees that they match the entry below:

Sheclickstheiconsforeachoftheseitems,butdiscoversshehasnoneofthosecomponentsinherinventory.Ifshehasaconvenientauctionhouse,shecouldjustbuythosecomponentsthatrefinershavealreadymade,oraskanotherplayerthatsheknowsisarefiner.Butshewantstodothewholethingherself.Checkingthefullentryinthisdocument,sheseesthelistedrefiningskillsforeachitem:

SoshegoesaheadandbuysarankofGemcutter,threeranksofSawyer,andtworanksofSagefromthevarioustrainerssoshecancreatetheindividualcomponents.Whensheclicksthevariousdoorsbehindthosetrainers,shenoticesthatshehasthe+0recipesbydefaultforeachofthosecomponents.Butshewantstomakea+2weapon.She’llneedtogetanaverageof+2componentstomaketheitem.Theeasiestwaytoensureitistojustuse+2refinedcomponentsineveryslot,butshecouldalsousesome+1sandsome+3s,andexperimentingwiththesystemmightletherfindamoreefficientwayofmakingtheitem.Butfornowshejustdecidestodoittheguaranteedwayandgowith+2s. Fortunately,she’sbeenplayingforawhileandgettingrecipedrops,soshealreadyhas+2recipesforLesserVitalGem,PinePole,andCrimsonCrystalinherinventory.(Orshecouldgooutandtradeforthem,buythemonthemarket,orgetthemfromhercompanyifweweren’tassumingshealreadyhadthem.)Sheright-clickstherecipesinherinventoryandlearnsthem(beforesheboughttherightskills,she’dbeunabletoconsumetherecipesfrominventory).Now,whensheclicksthevariousdoorstocraft,sheseesthe+2versionoftherecipesasanotheroptiononthelist.

Thegemsandoreusuallycomefromminingnodes,thelogscomefromforestrynodes,andtheessencescomefromdowsingnodes.ShealsodecidestopickupafewranksofMiner,Forester,andDowsertospeeduphergatheringrateandjustincaseanyofthemrequiresahigherranktogather.(Again,shecouldhaveaskedafriendtotrade,usedthemarket,orgottenthemfromhercompanyvault,butforthisexampleshewantstodoitallherself.) Afterseveralforaysintothewilderness,she’ssavedupsevenBloodstones,tenOnyxs,abunchofPineLogs,awholelotofAntithesisEssences,acoupleofOrderedEssences,andatleastonecopperore.ShealsonoticedthattheogresweredroppingsalvageitemsthatworkedaslogsandtheRazmirancultistsweredroppingitemsthatcountedasessences,sothatreducedthenumber of items she had to gather. Comingbacktotown,shevisitsthebuildingnexttothetrainerthattaughtherGemcutter.Nowclickingtheiconwithintherecipeshowsthetwooptions(BloodstoneandOnyx)thatcouldfulfillLesserVital.Sheclicksuntiltherequirementisfilled,thenstartsthecraftingprocess.Acountdownbarappearsinherqueue,andtheitemsareconsumed.SherepeatsthatprocessforthePinePoleandCrimsonCrystal. Onebyone,thoseitemsfinishtheircountdownsandappearinhervaultinthesettlement’sbank.Eachrecipeproducesmultiples,soshemayhaveenoughleftovertocraftexcessstavesforfriends.Fornow,though,shegoestotheshopbehindwhereshelearnedArtificerandclickstherecipeforthestaff.Noweachofthecomponenticonsyieldsoptionsinherinventoryorlocalvaultand,liketherefineditems,sheaddsthemuntiltherecipeisreadytoproduce.Shenoticesthatthere’sashortgreenbarnexttothedescriptionoftheitem:ifshefilledit,theitemwouldbecome+3.Thepresenceofaslightgreenbarisbecauseherskilllevelactuallygivesherasmallbonustotheupgradeleveloftheitem,andifthatgreenbarwasnearlyemptyshe’dbemakinganitemwiththemaximumefficiency(itwouldbeexactlytheupgradelevelshowingwithnothingwastedtowardanotherplus). Butsheknewwhatshewasgettingintowhenshedecidedtojustgo+2sacrosstheboard.Shestartstheprojectanditgoesintothequeue.Whenthequeuefinishes,she’llhaveashinynewstaffinherbankthatshecangoget,readytoequipandtowreakevenfieriervengeanceuponthemonstersoftheRiverKingdoms.
