Vote!
Election Day is coming quickly. I know
many of you have voted early, but I
want to encourage all of you to be sure
and vote. In fact, we will be starting a
new sermon series this next week
entitled “Celebrating Citizenship”
where we will be looking at our
responsibilities and what it means to
be a citizen here on Earth and in the
Kingdom of God. I hope you will join us each Sunday in
November.
No matter who wins the upcoming election, we must
remember that God is in control, not us. So I leave you with
some timely advice that comes from John Wesley who wrote
the following in his journal on October 6, 1774.
“I met those of our society who had votes in the ensuing
election, and advised them. 1. To vote, without fee or
reward, for the person they judged most worthy: 2. To speak
no evil of the person they voted against: and, 3. To take
care their spirits were not sharpened against those that
voted on the other side.”
I look forward to seeing you all on Sunday.
In Christ,
Rick Enns [email protected]

Greetings!
I trust that all of you
are doing well as the
cold weather blows
in. Winter time is one
of my favorite times
of the year. I
especially like snow. Something great about
bundling up inside by the fireplace with the
family and enjoying some hot chocolate. As the
cold weather blows in I can't help but think
about our youth’s annual ski trip. This year we
will be going to Monarch, CO. on December
30th. We have a great group of 23 youth
signed up already and I anticipate a wonderful
trip. Ski trips are always a great memory maker
for youth...I certainly remember the trips I went
on as a youth. It is really important to me that
youth get to go. That being said, there are two
youth who are in need of work to raise the rest
of the funds they need for the ski trip. I do not
believe in handouts for ski trips, but rather
working hard to raise money. If you happen to
have any work they could do to raise funds,
please contact me at 336-1699. Thank you for
your prayers and support and make sure to
stay warm during this colder season!

Celebrating Citizenship Politics, pundits, platitudes… We are hearing
a lot of each during this political season. How
do we as Christians sort through it all? What
does it mean to be a citizen of Heaven while
living in this world? Join us in worship during
the month of November as we look at these
and other questions as we “celebrate
citizenship.”

2013 Costa Rica Mission Trip
July 13 -21
Have you wondered what it would be like to take a short term mission trip to another
county? Perhaps the trip to Tamarindo, Costa Rica is your place to start. A group of short term
missionaries, primarily from FUMC Canyon have been traveling to Tamarindo for the past several
years. We started there by completing a Sunday School addition which is beaming with activity of
toddlers to young adults. The past few years we have been constructing a new sanctuary as their
current one had been condemned by the Costa Rican government. Let us tell you a little of what you
would experience.
The travel – An approximate four hour flight to San Jose, Costa Rica. You will need a passport
that does not expire within six months of the travel dates. The first night is usually spent in
the Methodist Seminary. The bus trip to Tamarindo will take 4-5 hours the next day. We
usually have a tourist day on the last Saturday and fly home on Sunday.
The surroundings – The Church is located in a rural, primitive, poverty prominent area of Costa
Rica close to the Panama border. The Church was built in the middle of a banana plantation
so you see lots of banana plants and palm trees. It rains every day which means that it is
hot and humid. It gets dark early and light early. There is no TV so there is ample time to
visit, have quiet time and it is early to bed. (Talk about simplifying life!)
The accommodations – We sleep communally, by gender, on blow-up mattresses in the Sunday
school rooms. Several showers are available; however, tepid is as hot as the water gets.
The ample and tasty food is lovingly prepared by ladies from the congregation. Lots of
beans and rice but some new items to experience also.
The work – While it is impossible to predict exactly what we will be doing but you can bet it will be
construction and quite physical. There are plenty of breaks and good drinking water. The
pastor and locals join right it with us.
The Church – Ahh, the people are the best part of the trip. They are so appreciative. Their
generosity, hospitality and connectiveness are amazing. This Church is truly our sister
Church. They are regularly on their knees for us as individuals, our pastor and our Church.
You will come to appreciate the statement “it is not about the project, it is about the
relationships.”
The cost – You will be expected to contribute/raise about $1250 (we will determine amount
based on airfare) for your part of the expense of the trip including some funds for material.
You will be expected to assist with our fund raising projects and to pray for the team and the
trip.
We have room for you! Contact Jane or Joe King as soon as possible. They can be reached at
[email protected] or 806 678-0603. You may pick up an application at our Church office. If
this is not your year to go, we still need your help! You could help with donations to help
others go and/or donations for materials.
We covet your prayers and support! - The Costa Rica Mission Team
