Brief summary of the camp:
A school health check-up camp was conducted by the Arokya milk products in coordination
with Department of Community Medicine, Yenepoya medical college, Mangaluru in all
schools in Manglore city from 09/12/2019 to 19/12/2019. A total of 10,000 students were
coveredduringcheckup. General examination and vitals were checked. Medications were
prescribed wherever necessary. Students were referred if required. Around 6000 students
were noted to have poor dental hygiene and proper brushing techniques were advised to them
and asked to consult a dentist in severe cases. Anaemia was another most commonly noted
problem among these students and proper dietary advice were given and in severe cases iron
supplementation were also advised. Students were given water bottles and name slips by
Arokya milk products for taking part in this programme and the staff present there were
thanked for their cooperation.

After the formal inauguration, the camp began. The beneficiaries were first asked to visit the
registration counter. Their basic details were recorded. Volunteers who intended to donate
blood were screened for any abnormalities or ailments. Blood was collected using standard
procedures on those found to be fit on screening. Blood pressure/sugar screening, child
health care, eye check-up, orthopedics and ENT consultation and dental check-up services
were provided. Referral cards were given to those needing further assessment and care at
Yenepoya Medical College Hospital. Pamphlets on schemes and services available at
Yenepoya Medical College Hospital were distributed to the beneficiaries. Free essential
medicines were dispensed. The camp closed at around 1 pm.

A Population Based Screening programme was organized at Golithottu sub-centre in
Nalliyadi as a part of NPCDCS programme. The screening was for non-communicable
diseases such as Hypertension, Diabetes, Oral cancer, Breast cancer and Cervical cancer. All
patients who visited the centre and were 30 years or over were examined for hypertension,
diabetes and oral cancer. All the women were approached and a diligent effort was made by
Ms. Leena, Ms. Celin and Dr. Subhashree to convince them to undergo breast examination
and VIA (Visual inspection of cervix with Acetic acid). Of all the women who visited the
centre, 15 were examined for breast cancer and 12 were screened for cervical cancer by VIA.
Of the 12 who were examined for cervical cancer, 2 women were referred to a higher center
in view of some abnormality that was detected. All women were advised to do self breast
examination and were educated regarding symptoms of cervical cancer.

Brief summary of the camp:
A general health checkup camp was conducted by Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC),
Bunder, in coordination with Yenepoya Medical College, Mangaluru at Nagabrama Slake,
Dongerkery on 18/12/19. A total of 42 beneficiaries came for checkup and utilized the
services provided. General examination was done and vitals were checked. Medications were
prescribed wherever necessary. During NCD screening, 7 new cases of systemic hypertension
and 6 new cases of diabetes mellitus was diagnosed. Appropriate medication, healthy diet and
regular exercise were advocated. 2 pediatric cases and 3 OBG cases came for check up at the
camp. The staff present there was thanked for their cooperation.

Brief summary of the camp:
A health camp was conducted by the Rural health training center, Harekala and Department
of Community Medicine, Yenepoya Medical College, Mangalore at Rajagudde Government
School on 28/12/2019. A total of 125 children were examined were examined belonging to
classes 1st to 8
th standard. the main ailments noticed there were dental caries and allergic
rhinitis for which respective referrals were given. All the children were given WIFS regularly
as weel as Tab. Albendazole was given in September. All the children studying there have
complete immunization status. We thanked the school staff for their coorperation.

As a part of teaching and training of Community Diagnosis, the II year MBBS students
posted in the Department of Community Medicine were taught about Focus group discussion
(FGD) forunderstanding health problems and needs of the community. Dr. Shubhankar
Adhikari, Assistant professor, Dr. SubhashreeNandy, Postgraduate Tutor, explained to the
students in detail about the exercise and briefed them as to how to conduct iteffectively in a
field setting. The objectives of the FGD were as follows:
1. To assess the knowledge of residents of Madaninagar regarding solid waste and its types
2. To assess their knowledge regarding management of solid waste
FGD was conducted among 7 mothers of under-five children and residents of the village to
understand the knowledge and practice of solid waste disposal. The speaker, Mr. Abin
introduced the FCP batch students to the participants and explained the purpose of this
activity. The participants’ consent was taken to audio record the activity. Also, another
person was assigned to take down notes as the activity proceeded. After the ice-breaking
session, the speaker directed various questions regarding types of solid waste and its
appropriate management. In the meantime, the entire session was recorded and the answers of
all the participants were noted word to word. Another student was assigned to make the
sociogram which indicates the direction of interaction.
The session concluded with advice regarding the appropriate methods of disposal of solid
waste and the importance of reusing and recycling. The participants were then thanked for
their active participation.

students in detail about the exercise and briefed them as to how to conduct iteffectively in a
field setting.
Participatory mapping was conducted with 5 mothers of under-five children and residents of
the village to understandhealth care utilization and geographical accessibility pertaining to
healthcare facilities and also to locate sites where solid waste was disposed. Initially, the
students introduced themselves to the target audience after which consent was
taken.Thereafter, the participants were asked to depict their locality in the form of a map with
assistance from Ms. Reshma, MSW, after which they were asked to depict theirhouses in the
map. Important landmarks like healthcare facilities, schools, colleges, Anganawadis, places
of worship and solid waste disposal sites/community bins were depicted on the map.The
participants were then enquired regarding their health-seeking behavior
thoroughly.Moreover, they were also asked if there were any problems which they
encountered as far asaccessibility, availability and utilization of health care services were
concerned.

MBBS students were given two days to prepare for the skit during which permission to enact
at the school was obtained. The MBBS students were taken to Nishara Public School on 14-
12-2019. The school students of class 8, 9 and 10 were gathered as the audience. The
participants of the role play first introduced themselves and introduced the theme of the role
play. Following this they began to perform. The script of the role play focused on the
common addictions among young and old individuals. It also stressed on the harmful effects
of addictions on health and family and how it could deteriorate one’s quality of life. The play
concluded with a scene on how one can get over an addiction and where one must go to seek
help for the same. All MBBS students of the FCP group actively participated in the role play.
