SCHOOL OF EDUCATION CONVOCATION 2020
I’ll never forget my last walk on campus — not too windy,
not too hot, not too cold. In that 15-minute walk, I passed
by so many of my previous professors, classmates and
friends that I had made throughout the last four years.
That last walk reminded me that I made the right choice
moving to Kansas, committing to my major, and that all of my
choices, good and bad, throughout college have made me proud of the
person I am today.
School of Education Graduates,
I know I speak for all the faculty and staff in the School of Education in offering you my sincerest congratulations on completing your
degree. How fortunate we are to have such great students at KU. You Jayhawks have shown yourselves to be remarkable —
persevering through the most trying of circumstances while performing at an incredibly high level with a positive outlook for
the future. You were part of a totally unprecedented turn of events, yet have displayed the best qualities of the finest Jayhawks from the past. Do take some time to reflect on the journey
you just completed. You all have much to be proud of as you move forward to your next life adventures.
Please stay in touch with us. You are joining a group of about
30,000 living alumni of the School, and we will rely on you to keep us sharp for the generations of future Jayhawks to come.
If we can help you in any way, do not hesitate to reach out.
In the words that we have all come to know and love that distinguish us from the crowd —
Rock Chalk Jayhawk, KU!
Congratulations.
Rick Ginsberg, Ph.D.Dean

DID YOU KNOW?KU’s colors have been crimson and blue since the early 1890s. The colors were taken from Harvard’s crimson and Yale’s blue.
KU officially adopted them in 1896.
I am inspired by the idea that engagement in the world around us will yield fulfilling opportunities when gently
approached with an attitude of curiosity,
flexibility, and optimism. I also believe in hope — that the future will be
better than the present.

DID YOU KNOW?KU’s world-famous Rock Chalk Chant evolved from
a science club cheer created in 1886 by chemistry professor E.H.S. Bailey. Bailey’s “Rah, Rah, Jayhawk, KU”
was later changed to “Rock Chalk” after “chalk rock,” the limestone found on Mount Oread.
I will always be inspired by the 5th floor of JRP.
When you walk through the halls and see all of the names of the incredible professors
who have led the way in the special education field,
it is truly an awesome experience.

Crimson and the Blue
Far above the golden valley,Glorious to view,
Stands our noble Alma Mater,Towering toward the blue.
Lift the chorus ever onward,Crimson and the blue.
Hail to thee, our Alma Mater,Hail to old KU.
Far above the distant hummingOf the busy town,
Reared against the dome of heavenLooks she proudly down.
Lift the chorus ever onward,Crimson and the blue.
Hail to thee, our Alma Mater,Hail to old KU.
Greet we then our foster mother,Noble friend so true.
We will ever sing her praises,Hail to old KU.
Lift the chorus ever onward,Crimson and the blue.
Hail to thee, our Alma Mater,Hail to old KU.
