ProcessOver-ThepreviousSchoolofMedicineStrategicPlanexpiredin2016,providinganopportunityfortheSchooltoidentifystrengthsthatneedfurtherutilized,weaknessestoimprove,opportunitiestogrow,andpotentialthreats.ThenewSchoolofMedicineStrategicPlantakesintoconsiderationtheSchool’sresponsestothelastaccreditationsitevisit,decreasingstatefundavailability,increasinghealthchallengesthroughoutthestate,depreciationofinfrastructure,andchangesinnationalhealthcaretrends.
Thestrategicplanwascreatedbyconsultingtheschool’spreviousstrategicplan,WVU2020StrategicPlan,HSC2020StrategicPlan,WVUMedicineStrategicPlan,LCMEaccreditationelementsincludingElement1.1,LCMEWhitePaperonContinuousQualityImprovement(CQI),and2017HSCHealthProjects.TheproposedSOMStrategicPlan’sstandards,goals,andassociatedmetricswillmapbacktoandreferencethesedocuments.
ThestrategicplanhasbeendisseminatedtothemissionleadersthroughouttheSchoolofMedicinewhohaveconferredwiththeirrespectiveteamstoensurethatthisplanencompassesthebroadrangeofinitiativesfortheSchool.Theover-archingthemesfoundincludeEducation,ImpactandPartnerships,TalentandCulture,Research,andPatientCare.Eachofthesethemeshaveoutlinedgoalsandobjectivesthatsupporttheschool’smissiontotangiblyimprovethelivesofWestVirginia’scitizens,elevatingtheirlivesandthestate.
