ISD’s strategy for developing a Secondary Uses Service for NHS Scotland:

•Develop smarter, more efficient, secure and user-friendly ways of delivering information intelligence

•Maximising IT development opportunities.

•Provide a proactive support service - experienced ISD analysts assist the NHS to make best use of the information available.

• Independent technical review approved existing data warehouse design and architecture.

• Continue planned incremental development to incorporate remaining existing National data sets into the NHS Data Warehouse

• Incorporate new data flows into the NHS Data Warehouse as they arise

• Interest from NHS Boards in incorporating local management information.

• Web based information service providing user-friendly access to broad range of comparative information.

• Supports quality improvement and the review, monitoring & planning of healthcare services.

• Available to healthcare staff based in NHS Boards, CHPs, Hospitals and GP practices.

• Early stage of development – piloted with NHS Lothian and Fife during September 2007.

• Obtains information from NHS Data Warehouse using NHSNet.

• Information presented at high level with facility to “drill down” to review more detailed data
