The Journey
Look into the mirror
Self-Leadership: The leadership we exercise over ourselves
If we ever hope to become leaders of others, we need first to be able to lead ourselves effectively
Leadership
”A process af influence” First step in the journey toward
achievement of an understanding and improvement of our own self-lesdership
Leadership is not just an outward process – we can and do lead ourselves
Sources of leadership
External leadership Giving of orders Rewards and punishments
Participative leadership Goals are set jointly by a manager and a
subordinate Self-Leadership
Self-imposed processe at the others
Next step of the journey
A boss who gives orders to you, but The method in which you complete tasks is left
to you What you think about while you work is up to you You can set a higher or lower goal to yourself –
that is up to you You can feel good about your progress or be
tough on yourself The point is that you are your own leader
much of the time Even if you are faced with influential
external leaders
Who is in charge? In leaders absence:
You are of course in charge of yourself If leaders are present:
They cannot look in to your mind! In fact we are our own ultimate leaders! From Boss: ”Your loafing and making a poor
quality” To self: ”I am the best in the department –
the boss is unreasonable today!”
We all lead ourselves!
But: We are not all effective self-leaders
We all have weaknesses in our self-leadership process
Some give their self-leadership potential to others and are lead into equally negative conditions
Your own leader
The point is that you are your own leader, and
You can be a good leader, or You can be a bad leader The ideas you choose to adopt for
yourself, are up to you – after all you are your own leader
The concept of Self-Leadership
