“Our God is Mighty To Save”
The prophet Zephaniah gave great encouragement to the people of
God following a period of suffering for their sins. Perhaps they
wondered if God was done with them. Hear these words of
encouragement today . . .
Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)
The LORD your God is with you,
the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
In his love he will no longer rebuke you, but
He will rejoice over you with singing.
Our God is near to us and even “among us” every day. God does not
leave us or forsake us when we have failed. God is “Mighty To Save” -
more than able to deliver us from our fears, and our faults, and our
failures. If you have access to contemporary songs, check out the
popular praise song by Hillsongs composers Reuben Morgan and
Ben Fielding entitled “Mighty to Save” https://www.youtube.com/
watch?v=t5ghKwGEQRA
The lyrics are:
Everyone needs compassion; Love that's never failing . . . Let mercy
fall on me; Everyone needs forgiveness, the kindness of a Savior . . .
The hope of nations
Chorus: Savior; He can move the mountains
My God is mighty to save; He is mighty to save
Forever; Author of salvation
He rose and conquered the grave, Jesus conquered the grave
So take me as You find me; All my fears and failures
Fill my life again; I give my life to follow
Everything I believe in; Now I surrender . . . (Chorus)
Jesus saves - saves us from our sins and mistakes, our fears and
worries, our hopeless and helpless thoughts, our anxiety and our
depression. As we put our faith in Christ, we find relief from our
problems - knowing the Lord cares about what everything we are
going through !
This passage goes on to reassure us . . .
The Lord will take great delight in you
The Lord will act in love toward you, and not rebuke forever
The Lord will rejoice over us - with singing !

Now there’s a great image for you . . . God will sing over us ! What a wonderful
concept !
Take heart and savor the awareness that . . . the God we believe in, the God we love
and serve, the God who created everything out of nothing . . . takes delight in being your
Lord and Savior. God will look at you with Love (and not primarily with rebuking
punishment).
God rejoices when He sees you . . . and begins singing with joy !
We are created in the image of God - so why should we be surprised that God loves to
sing ? Singing and music are two of God’s most enjoyable gifts. We sing when we are
happy, when we are sad, when we are thankful, and when we are struggling to believe
in the triumph of the good and the right. We express our feelings and our faith in “songs
and hymns and spiritual songs” - we sing and make music from our hearts unto the Lord
(Ephesians 5:19).
Be encouraged Today - that the Creator of the Universe sees you, and knows you, and
loves you unconditionally (regardless of your behavior, performance or success) - even
delights in knowing you. Be encouraged Today - that the Lord your God is Mighty and
well able to deliver you. Be encouraged Today - that Jesus cares and walks with you,
that God rejoices to know you and looks at you with everlasting compassion and grace.
Be encouraged Today - that God himself will sing over you in joyful rejoicing !
What will be YOUR response to that kind of love and mighty deliverance ?
In Service to the Master,

STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN
Grow as Stewards through Faith, Love and Hope!
The theme for this year’s stewardship program beginning October 13, 2019 is titled “Grow as Stewards through Faith, Love and Hope!” In Paul’s letter to the people in Thessalonica, he wrote, “We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 1:3). God graciously gives us faith, love, and hope – virtues essential for our lives as Christians and as God’s stewards. Each week during this three-week program, we will be focusing on one of the three virtuesof faith, love, and hope. In week one, we are reminded that it is through faith that we have access into God’s grace and a new relationship with him. Not only does faith justify us and give us peace with God (Romans 5:1), we are told by Paul in our theme verse that faith produces works. Faith leads to action. Through faith, we are empowered to fulfill God’s purposes. Our deeds as stewards are evidence of our faith. During the second week we will focus on the virtue of love. Love seeks the welfare of others “. . . since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us” (1 John 4:11-12). God’s love in Christ will compel us to do things that appear foolish to unbelievers. God’s love prompts us to give freely of our time, talents, and treasure to help others and extend His
kingdom.
The third and final week we will bring focus on the virtue of hope. Through the resurrection of Jesus, we, as believers, are given the victory over death and the assurance of our salvation. Filled with the hope of eternal life with Jesus, we “give [ourselves] fully to the work of the Lord, because [we] know that our labor in the Lord is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:58).
As your pastor, I pray that each of you will be in worship and in Bible study as we focus on the theme “Grow as Stewards through Faith, Love and Hope!” With thankfulness for you,
