SEPTEMBER 24, 2017
"The LORD is just in all his ways and holy in all his works.
The LORD is near to all who call upon him, to all who call upon him in truth."
Psalm 145 Dear Parishioners and Friends,
This past Friday we were blessed by the presence of his Eminence Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Bishop Salvatore Matano at a special Cathedral Diocesan Mass commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the founding of our Diocese.
Many new parish programs have started and are underway. Be sure to check the bulletin and our parish website at www.saintritawebster.org
This Saturday we have our Altar Server Social and Training. We invite our current altar servers - and any girl or boy in 3rd grade or higher who would like to learn to be a server - to take part!
This Sunday evening we will be gathering in church at 6:15pm with parents and teens for the start of the Confirmation Program. The two year program is Diocesan-wide. Come if even if you have not registered your child yet. (Typically the preparation begins in eighth grade) or call Marie at the parish office for further information for this important Sacrament.
Mark your calendars for the annual St. Francis Pet Blessing on Sunday, October 8th at 1:00pm to be held at in the Sister Katherine Ann circle in front of school. Pets of all types are most welcome – and believe me we get all kinds!
May God bless you this week! Fr. Gonyo

WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE AN ALTAR SERVER?
Any boy or girl in 3rd grade or older who has received First Communion and made Reconciliation can become an altar server.
Regular attendance at church, an ability to make a commitment, and a family that values worshipping together are all important characteristics of a successful server. Altar serving promotes responsibility, accountability, leadership, and teamwork.
Please join us for an
Altar Server Training Session and Social on Saturday, September 30
for all servers - current and new.
We’ll start with pizza at 12:30pm in Room 1 followed by a training session in church from 1:00-2:00pm.
*New servers should contact Elizabeth to see if an individual training should be scheduled.
Please be sure to RSVP to Elizabeth at [email protected] or call 671-1100 x 14.
CAN YOU HELP
OUR ALTAR LINEN MINISTRY?
Our Altar Linen Ministry is in need of a few more volunteers. Please call Karen at the parish office (671-1100) if you can help.

FOOD COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND
On the first Sunday of each month, parishioners are asked to bring in food for the needy in our area. Food may be left in
the greeting area of Church. Also needed are paper towels, toilet paper, pan spray and condiments. Please remember to bring your nonperishable foods to church with you next weekend.
ST. RITA SCHOOL
Spirit of Learning Corner
WHAT’S HAPPENING?
+ Ice-cream, balloons, friends and fun filled the gym on
Friday night. Pre-K and Kindergarten families were invited to celebrate our wonderful school community at the annual PreK/K Ice-Cream Social. With 36 children in our PreK program and 26 children in Kindergarten, there is so much to celebrate!
Fundraising for SRS
+ Next Saturday, September 30th, is St. Rita School’s
Annual Marathon. Pre-K through 5th Grade students and families will gather at North Ponds Park to walk and raise money for our school. Students will walk anywhere from one to six miles, depending on their grade level. If you know a family that attends St. Rita’s, please consider sponsoring them. All proceeds help with the cost of computers, books, PE equipment, musical instruments, and art supplies as well as Field Trips and special Assemblies.
+ We want your Box Tops! Last
year St. Rita School was able to raise over $700 from our “Box Tops for Education” collection. This year our goal is to raise $1,000! Can you help us reach this target? Box Tops can be dropped off at school or, even more convenient for parishioners, there is a collection box in the greeting area in church. Don’t toss them ~ Clip them for SRS!
+ The Labels for Education program has come to an
end. We are no longer collecting the Labels for Education. Last year we raised over $250 from this program.
Thank you for continuing to support our/your school throughout the years!

31st Annual St. Rita School Marathon
Next Saturday, September 30
8:00am – Noon at North Ponds Park
The Marathon is a spirit-filled event, serving as both a back-to-school "FUNraiser" for St. Rita students, as well as an important FUND-raiser for the school. This is the students’ main fundraiser of the year. Students gather pledges in advance from family, friends, and neighbors, and then walk around North Ponds (up to 6 times - that's six miles!), followed by an early morning picnic at the park. The students are expected to walk close to 700 miles this year!
Each year, the school tithes a portion of the proceeds to a worthwhile charity. Would you like to support a student or sponsor our School Principal? Donate a prize for a top fundraiser? Please call the school office (671-3132) if you can help.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY
Sunday mornings during our 9:00am Mass
This program was developed to give younger children a chance to listen and pray at their level of understanding.
Children are invited up to the altar before the first reading. They will receive a blessing from the priest or deacon and then proceed with their Catechist (adult leader) to Room 1 - adjacent to the church hallway.
They will hear the Children’s Liturgy of the Word and then return into the Church following the homily. Parents are always welcome to attend with their children.
For older children who have received their sacraments and wish to follow along, Children’s Mass Books are located in the pews.
Become a Catechist (adult leader)! No experience necessary. We provide all the materials and training. If you are interested please contact Teri at [email protected]. This a great way to share your faith with our young ones!

DID YOU KNOW?
Some of our newer parishioners may wonder why we kneel after the recessional hymn at the end of Mass. It is a tradition at St. Rita Church to take a moment to say three Hail Mary’s for the next person from our parish who will join the Lord in heaven.

PRAY THE ROSARY
Join us in the Chapel in Church to pray the rosary every Saturday morning from 8:15 - 8:45 am for persecuted Christians around the world and especially for those in the Middle East and Africa. What a powerful reason to get out of bed on a Saturday morning.
We also gather to pray the rosary on Wednesday Mornings immediately following our 8;15am morning mass (about 8:45am). If you are not able to make it to church either of these times, we encourage you to please pray with us on your own.
