UNIT I- SYNCHRONOUS RELUCTANCE MOTORS (9)
Constructionalfeatures-Types-Axial and radial air gap motors-operating principle-Reluctance-Phasor diagram-Characteristics-Vernier motor.
UNIT II - STEPPING MOTORS (9)
Constructional features, principle of operation, modes of excitation torque production in Variable
Reluctance (VR) stepping motor, Dynamic characteristics, Drive systems and circuit for openloop control, Closed loop control of stepping motor.
UNIT III - SWITCHED RELUCTANCE MOTORS (9)
Constructional features, principle of operation. Torque equation, Power controllers,
Characteristics and control Microprocessors based controller.
UNIT IV - PERMANENT MAGNET BRUSHLESS DC MOTORS (9)
Commutation in DC motors, Difference between mechanical and electronic commutators, Hallsensors, Optical sensors, Multiphase Brush less motor, Square wave permanent magnet brushless
motor drives, Torque and emf equation, Torque-speed characteristics, Controllers-Microprocessors based controller.
