• Match Report - Round 4 vs Mt Eliza
Seniors
In a super game of footy vs Mt Eliza, the Sharks
unfortunately fell just on the wrong side of the
ledger, falling short by just 4 points.
After a tight first quarter, the Sharks played their
best football of the year so far to take a 4-goal
lead into the main break. Mitch Hallahan was
unstoppable, whilst Leigh Poholke was putting
on a masterclass at full forward, kicking the
Sharks first 4 goals.
However, the 3rd quarter saw Mt Eliza turn it on,
playing quick skillful footy which we had heard
they were capable of. Lachie Croad continued to
dominate the ruck as he has done for the last
few weeks, but the Mt Eliza midfield woke up to
it and started getting first hands on the footy.
Mt Eliza took a 2-point lead into the final break.
The final quarter was a tight desperate affair,
with the Sharks generally dominating the
quarter. With 2 mins to go, the Sharks held a 4-
point lead, but Mt Eliza were able to force the
forward where a strong mark and goal gave
them the lead in the dying seconds, the Sharks
going down by 4 points in the end.
Whilst disappoint to lose what we should really
have won against a quality opposition, there
were definitely some good signs for the Sharks.
Nick Corp had his giant mitts working all day,
whilst Micky Walker earnt his recall with a strong
Performance.

Reserves
The Reserves team apologizes to the Sorrento
supporters & sponsors for an uncompetitive
performance.
As the score suggests, we were totally outplayed
& outclassed by a fitter & keener Mt Eliza team.
We need recruits to help cover injuries & create
competition for positions in the team. If anyone
knows of someone who wants to play footy then
please contact us.

Under 19s
Round 4 saw us travel up the freeway to take on
Mt Eliza. After been very, very successful over
the last 4-5 seasons on the Peninsula, this was
the biggest test we faced in many years.
Sadly, we went in somewhat undermanned, with
5-6 of our best 12 players out. By the end of the
game, we had been given a football lesson, going
down by 19 goals. Mt Eliza was harder at the
contest than us and were far superior in their
structural set up.
As a coach, all we ask of our players is effort and
commitment. If players give this then we can't
ask for more. There were times that we were
less than committed and even shirked the
contest, which was very disappointing …. but at
the same time, we know that this group is better
than that and will bounce back next week.
Having said that we had 3-4 players who really
battled hard all day. James Nevinson kept his
player to a solitary goal for the day. Eden
Matheson -Coles worked tirelessly in the ruck
and in the back half. Christian Bell and Mason
James fought hard all day and were one of the
few who matched Mt Eliza physically.
Whilst we suffered a big loss, there are lots we
can learn from a game like this and we can learn
as much from a loss as we can from a win. So
from here we train hard, listen and learn and
look forward to the rematch in 10 weeks’ time.
Final Scores: - Mt Eliza 19.16-130 defeated
