We are happy to announce ournew physician, Brett Johnson,D.O. started his practice at thePrimary Care Clinic on July 19.Dr. Johnson completed hisresidency program at SierraVista Health Center in Arizonathis year, where he focused on abroad range of medicine toprepare for a rural practice. Hehas recently relocated to thearea with his wife Jennie andtheir three children and says;“After experiencing how well thecommunity has invited us in, we

knew this was the place for us.”Their hobbies are being out inthe mountains together, hunting,shooting, and fishing.

Dr. Johnson plans onproviding full scope familypractice including OB andsurgical services; though heenjoys OB most and says: “OB isone of the happiest things weget to do in medicine.”

Employees also enjoyed an appreciation dinner at the Dusty Rose, where the 2016 Employee of theYear was announced. Dr. Danny Griffis and Margaret Bowles tied for the award, which is voted on bytheir fellow SHC employees. Congratulations to Dr. Griffis and Margaret!

During the first week of August, Syringa Hospital & Clinics celebratedemployee appreciation week. SHC employees enjoyed a week full of treatsincluding and employee appreciation lunch where the followingemployees were acknowledged and thanked for their respective years ofservice to our hospital and our community!

In a recent all-employee meeting, Dr.Danny Griffis explained to SHC staff whathis future will be with SHC. He started byexplaining that the one thing that stays con-sistent in the medical field, is that there isalways change. The strength of a hospitaldepends on its ability to adapt and respondto the constant change. To help guide themedical staff through such changes andbring a consistency to its leadership, Dr.Griffis took on the new role of ChiefMedical Officer on August 1st. In this role,Dr. Griffis will lead and advocate for theSHC employed and ancillary medical staff indeveloping clinical standards of practice,improving quality, coordinating medicaleducation, implementing an outpatientPatient CMedical Home, and enhancingpatient referrals to other hospitals. “Theseare all standard and expected duties,” saidSHC CEO Joe Cladohous, FACHE. “The big

reason we need Dr. Griffis as our CMO is tohelp SHC navigate the impending mine fieldof value based payments, which meanseither capitation or bundled payments.Since we are so rural it will most likely bethat we’ll have to figure out how to surviveand prosper on bundled payments, i.e. shar-ing a single allowed cost for an entireepisode of care.”

One thing that will not change though isDr. Griffis’ ability to see his patients. He willcontinue his practice at the Primary CareClinic, with .75 of his time being clinicaland .25 of his time in the new administra-tion role. “We are a forward looking hospi-tal. We realize what we’ve done in the pastis no longer sufficient and we’re ready forchange,” said Dr. Griffis. “These changes aregoing to bring about really great things inmedicine.”
