Show  Choir  Audi,ons  for  2019-­‐2020

Heritage  High  School  will  be  holding  audi3ons  for  our  two  Show  Choirs,  Rhapsody  (treble  voices)  and  Ambassadors  (mixed  voices).    Both  groups  meet  as  a  year-­‐long  class.  

AUDITIONS:

Incoming  9th  graders:    Tuesday,  May  7th  at  Central  Middle  School  in  the  Chorus  Room  from  4:30-­‐6:30  pm

Current  High  School  students:    Wednesday  and  Thursday,  May  8th  and  9th  at  Heritage  High  School  in  the  Chorus  Room  from  4-­‐6  pm.  

Students  who  wish  to  be  placed  in  either  show  choir  must  audi3on  and  should  have  the  following  quali3es:

• Strong  musicianship  skills  and  excep3onal  vocal  abili3es      • Ability  to  sight-­‐read  Vocal  music  • Ability  to  perform  choreography  and  facial  expression  while  singing• Dependable  • Honest• Hard-­‐working  • 2.0  or  higher  GPA

There  are  a  lot  of  privileges  that  come  with  being  a  member  of  one  of  the  Heritage  High  Show  Choirs,  however,  with  that  privilege  comes  responsibility.    

Students  who  are  selected  to  be  in  the  class  are  expected  to  be  at  all  scheduled  performances.    Ample  no3ce  will  be  given  for  all  performances  and  students  are  expected  to  make  the  appropriate  arrangements  with  their  parents  and  employers  to  be  at  their  scheduled  performances.    In  addi3on,  Show  Choir  students  are  required  to  aUend  aVer-­‐school  rehearsals  once  a  week.    For  the  2018-­‐19  School  Year,  these  rehearsals  took  place  on  Wednesdays  for  Rhapsody  on  Thursdays  for  Ambassadors.    Rehearsals  run  from  3:45  –  5:00  pm.

AUDITION  COMPONENTS

Sight-­‐Reading  –  8  Measure  excerpt  in  the  Key  of  C,  4/4  3me,  mostly  step-­‐wise  mo3on  but  some  skips  on  Do-­‐Mi-­‐So.    

Na,onal  Anthem  –  Students  should  prepare  to  sing  the  Na3onal  Anthem.    (does  not  need  to  be  memorized).    This  por3on  of  the  audi3on  is  to  evaluate  the  student’s  vocal  tone  quality,  vocal  range,  and  ability  to  stay  in  key.    (If  a  student  is  unable  to  sing  the  Na8onal  Anthem  for  personal  reasons,  please  contact  Ms.  Rock  for  an  alternate  song  to  prepare)

Choreography  –  students  will  be  taught  a  dance  rou3ne  on-­‐site  for  the  audi3on

Ensemble  excerpt  –  Students  will  be  taught  an  ensemble  excerpt  on-­‐site  to  determine  their  ability  to  learn  harmonies  and  sing  with  part-­‐independence.
