Hello Chapter Members,
Well is it hot enough or you? The heat
has kept me housebound. I’m using this
time to catch up on unfinished projects.
There is great satisfaction in putting on a
final coat of varnish.
I can’t wait to paint with Mary Kate at
our August 10 meeting. We will enjoy a
potluck lunch. Did you sign up to bring
something? Mark your calendar.
Please read the newsletter in its
entirety. It will be your best source of
information for all upcoming events.
If you have not signed up for the Star
Award and Nominating committees, it’s
time to do so.
Also, don’t forget about our tole month
display, which is coming up. We need fresh
pieces to display.
Sketchbooks: We need to jump start
this challenge. Let’s rename the sketchbook
a journal. Will all of you please pick up your
pencils and turn to page 3 of your journal,
formerly known as a sketchbook, and please
do something? How about the color chart to
go with the August class? It’s a way to put
the paper and the pencil together and come
up with something. Please bring your
journal with any entry you can think of. It
will be an inspiration to all of us. Looking
forward to see the progress on this
challenge.
Happy painting see all of you at the
August meeting.

Greetings Fellow Painters,
As I opened my Word doc to begin my article today,
thoughts of what I appreciate most about being a
member of SSTDP flooded my mind. First, a little back
story: I joined the chapter in 2013, just a few years ago.
Immediately I noticed how well you all knew each other
and the depth of those friendships. Then, happily, I
noticed how everyone made such an effort to make me
feel welcome. My second chapter activity was the yearly
Christmas party. I was in awe. Such beautiful decorations
and nice party favors, and so much effort was made to
make it nice. Most of us living here in Las Vegas are from
somewhere else, and maybe family isn't so close by, and
that was me in a nutshell. As I introduced myself to those
sitting at my table, a funny thing happened. Each lady
had the same first name as one of my sisters from my
actual family. To me, this was a sign I was in the right
place—where I was supposed to be. I knew then this was
going to be good!
That sisterhood continues as we work together and
paint together, as we party and play together. Creative
sharing is the best sharing! Don’t you agree? I know I was
not the only one delighted to paint Mrs. Whoo-ligans in
July with Kay Singer. Getting to know her better as she
shared her talents with us was awesome. What a great
teacher to add to our list here at SSTDP! Thanks Kaye!
We, as a board, invite all of you who have any
experience or desire to teach, to give it a try. Just a few
guidelines:
Submit a class or two to me before November
chapter meeting.
Let me know what month(s) you are available to
teach.
Make sure you have written permission from the
designer to use her design, and follow her guidelines
for copyright. We, as a chapter, will be sure to
advertise the class giving her design credit, and will
ask that you follow up with her after class by
sending/posting pictures.
If you submit more than one workshop/class, I ask
that you include a paint-in (shorter length) class so
we have enough to choose from to pair with our
quarterly business meetings. We try to keep them as
short as possible to allow for more painting fun.
Because, in the long run, that’s what we are all here
for, the painting. And the sisterhood.
TEACHER CORNER:
We have a treat in
store for August! See
below:
There are still a few
spots open for the Silver
Santa project with Mary
Kate Erickson. Not sure
about attending?
Cleaned out your stash?
No time to prep? No
time to locate paint
colors? No worries!
Mary Kate has you
covered as she will
bring the surfaces (shells straight from the project
designer, Lisbeth Stull; and DecoArt has generously
provided all the paint). And there is no prep! So, bring
yourself, basic painting supplies, the class fee ($10.00)
and supply fee (total 7.50) that includes shells ($5.00),
and embellishments ($2.50) and you'll leave with a
project as unique as the shell you select. See you August
10th!
Looking forward to it, Mary Kate!

Dear Chapter Members,
I am reporting to you regarding our upcoming annual
SSTDP Christmas Party. The party committee and I have
been busy making plans to host a wonderful event—as
usual. Most of our plans are being kept under wraps to
ensure you enjoy the surprises we have in store. But there
are other plans for which we need your participation.
First, per usual, please paint a gift for another par-
tygoer. You’ve got about three months to accomplish
this—don’t procrastinate because whoever paints the gift
you receive may be putting her heart and soul into it and
you don’t want to disappoint whoever receives yours. This
is a time to let your creativity and painting skills shine; we
each enjoy and are inspired by seeing one another’s crea-
tions. Your gift should be no larger than 12”x12” for ease
of transportation. Please bring it to the party, wrapped for
gifting. It does not need to be holiday-themed nor an or-
nament, though that is fine if you so choose. The gift ex-
change will be anonymous as in past years (don’t put your
name on the outside of the gift, but be sure to sign your
work).
Second, we invite you to participate in a bit of
friendly painting competition. As part of our party theme,
you’re invited to paint an ornament spotlighting Mrs.
Claus—you know the one: the wings beneath Santa, the
elusive person who makes Mr. C look good. You can paint
this ornament on anything you like, i.e. a CD disk, jar lid,
wood cut, tin, paper, blown egg, etc. Every person who
brings a painted Mrs. Claus ornament will receive a prize.
We will vote for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners who will
each win another prize, along with the envy of all their
peers.
SAVE THE DATE: Saturday, December
14, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Luncheon “Remember the
Gifts” at Los Prados Country Club, 5150 Los Prados Circle,
Las Vegas, NV 89130.
RESERVE YOUR SEAT: We are enjoying a
discounted party fee this year, only $10 for chapter mem-
bers ($35 for nonmembers). We hope every chapter mem-
ber will join us for this special party! Please pay the fee at
your earliest convenience to Carole Liccardo or Kaye Sing-
er. (Those paying after November 1st will be included but
may not receive favors due to limited quantities.)
Best wishes for happy painting,
Nanette Hilton
