System Knowledge Modules
• Simple simulation of basic plant systems or loops, such as
– Plant heating/cooling systems
– Flow/level control loops
– Pump & breaker logic
• Simple system representation
– Simpler than detailed simulator modeling diagrams to help focus student’s attention on most important concepts
• Interactive diagrams
– Requires student input to operate the various equipment
– Real-‐time status indication provides direct feedback to student actions
– Can be integrated with L3 MAPPS Scenario Manager which includes automatic student evaluation system

Learning Simulators
• Designed to assist teaching and learning of major plant transients and the associated systems and behavior
– Goal is to increase/accelerate understanding while increasing retention
• Couples 2-‐D & 3-‐D interactive graphic visualization with high-‐fidelity simulation
– Provides a visually rich graphical representation of complex plant events
– Interactive environment provides engaging student experience
• Primarily focused on the Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS)
– All plant systems can be represented in 3-‐D but the Learning Simulator focuses on the most complex parts of the plant
• Versatile tool that can be used in
– Instructor-‐led sessions
– Individual (personal) sessions with built-‐in, automatic instructional feedback

Learning Simulators – Training Delivery
24
• Can be instructor-‐led
• Blend of 2-‐D and 3-‐D animations
• Objective is learning “how something works” vs. “knowing what switch to turn when”
• Can be integrated into virtual or full scope simulator control room
• Allows students to understand the consequences of their actions
• Reinforces comprehensive learning instead of procedure learning
• Can be individually used by students
• Allows students to learn at their own pace and to focus on what they have trouble with
• Designed to guide students in the learning process

Customer Feedback – Rehost and Classroom Simulators
Instructors
• Easy-‐to-‐use Instructor Station
• Reliable
• Scenario development time much improved…
• Use of offline simulators to develop scenarios then run them on main FSS is excellent
• Classroom simulators used in 1, 2 or 3 simulator configurations used by both plant technicians and operations staff
– Has been in constant use for a year now and is generally difficult to get hands-‐on time
Maintenance
• Configuration creation and deployment is fast
• Creation of quick configs for testing updates before formal release is just brilliant
• I/O calibration and I/O fault diagnosis can be carried out whilst training is in progress

Customer Feedback – New Learning Technologies
• System Knowledge Modules have been used to great effect demonstrating flow loop principles and following up with logical analysis of controlling systems
• Learning Simulators (RCS 3-‐D model) feedback is always excellent and used mainly with demonstration of accident scenarios such as LOCAs

Customer Feedback – EDF Energy Community
• Local Team Leaders and Group Heads “away day” (50 persons) showing all aspects of the new rehost, and how it could be used to add value not just to Operations training but to engineering training programs
– Has been used since to support Engineering training programs (1 day per 3 months; all engineers)
• Demonstration to new Station Director and Region Director
– Feedback was just excellent with Sizewell B leading the way with innovation and proactive training approaches
• Another local demonstration to Station Managers
– Again feedback was simply excellent
– Sizewell B on the map for advanced training tools and comments towards continued positive contractor relationship with L3 MAPPS-‐-‐-‐to time and budget
• Sizewell B hosted the fleet’s Training Managers and Operations Group Heads just before Christmas [2016]
– Feedback again was excellent
– The fleet training manager was simply blown away!
