RRC Middle East (RRCME) hashelped Oman Oil Refineries andPetroleum Industries Company(ORPIC) to manage health andsafety during the 46-day totalturnaround of its Sohar refinery andpetrochemical plant for majoressential maintenance. RRCMEprovided ten competent oil and gasHSE practitioners to carry out arange of services including training,safety inspections and risk

assessment, which helped ORPIC toachieve zero harm and minimumloss.

Ladder toolbox talkThe Ladder Association hascapped a record-breaking sixmonths for ladder training byreleasing a new Toolbox Talk onequipment inspection. The‘Inspection of Ladders andStepladders’ talk sees theassociation’s technical managerDon Aers discuss legalrequirements, what to look for andhow to carry out an inspection.The video joins a number ofladder talks available on theassociation’s website, including theuse of ladders in scaffolding andguidance for more casual users.

Makita has devised and delivered anew training course for theseapprentices as an integral modulewithin the HAE’s two-year trainingscheme. This embraces the generalproduct knowledge delivered by theMakita Be Safe courses that are run inconstruction colleges and teach corehealth and safety factors.

Lockout/tag-out movie

IPAF’s new PAL+ training course isnow available from Mentor. Theadvanced course, designed forexperienced delegates operating inhigh risk or challenging environments,comes recommended by the UKContractor’s Group (UKCG).

Operators such as steel erectors andnet fixers, who work in overheadconfined spaces, around pillars or steelframes, on challenging terrain, or aboveor below obstacles, can take the one-day course to supplement their skills.

Training is category specific;delegates can complete PAL+training on a static vertical (1a+),static boom (1b+), mobile vertical(3a+) or mobile boom (3b+). Tel: 01246 555222

PAL+ course

To increase levels of safety ofpowered automatic gates, thePowered Gate Group of the Door &Hardware Federation (DHF) haslaunched a training scheme that willbe compulsory for all DHF memberswho install powered gates. Two two-day training courses for DHFmember employees will be held inSeptember and October, with moredue to be held in early 2014. Allinstallers who successfully completethe course will be awarded the DHFGate Safety Diploma.

3M is hosting a free webinar onhearing conservation and noisehazards in the workplace as partof its ‘safety spotlight’ series. Thewebinar will take place onThursday 20 June at 12 noon andbe hosted by 3M technicalengineer Sarah Broadbent.

Providing an overview onnoise in the workplace, thewebinar will cover identificationof potential noise hazards,selection of appropriate hearingprotection equipment, andhearing protection validation andtraining for employees.
