BROAD CALCULATIONS FOR CONSTRUCTION
• VACATE A HYPOTHETICAL AREA OF 100 x 100 M = 10,000 Sq M.
• LIKELY FOOT PRINT OF CONSTRUCTED AREA = 10,000 x 0.5 = 5,000 Sq M.
• BALANCE 5,000 Sq M WOULD BE LEFT FOR ROADS, SERVICES, WALKWAYS, LANDSCAPING AND SO ON.
SIZE OF DWELLIG UNITS
• EACH DWELLING UNIT WOULD COMPRISE OF:-– TWO LIVING / BED ROOMS.– ONE KITCHEN.– ONE STORE ROOM.– ONE BATH ROOM.– ONE TOILET.
• TOTAL SUPER BUILT UP AREA OF ONE DWELLING UNIT = 50 Sq M.
SIZE OF EACH BUILDING
• RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS WOULD BE OF G + 3 CONFIGURATION.
• EACH FLOOR WOULD HAVE EIGHT DWELLING UNITS (DUs).
• SUPER BUILT UP AREA OF EACH FLOOR WOULD BE 8 X 50 = 400 Sq M.
• TOTAL NUMBER OF DUs IN EACH BUILDING WOULD BE 8 X 4 = 32 DUs.
CALCULATION FOR NUMBER OF BUILDINGS
• TOTAL FOOT PRINT OF CONSTRUCTED AREA – 5,000 Sq M.
• FOOT PRINT OF EACH BUILDING – 400 Sq M.
• NUMBER OF BUILDINGS THAT WOULD BE CONSTRUCTED – 5,000/400 = 12.5 SAY 12 BUILDINGS.
• TOTAL NUMBER OF DUs CONSTRUCTED – 12 X 32 = 384 DUs.
RECOMMENDED METHOD OF CONSTRUCTION
• CONSTRUCTION IS RECOMMENDED BY USE OF ALUMINIUM ALLOY FORMS BECAUSE OF:-– HIGH SPEED OF CONSTRUCTION.
CONSTRUCTION IS THREE TO FOUR TIMES FASTER THAN TRADITIONAL METHOD.
– CHEAPER CONSTRUCTION. 15 TO 20% LOWER THAN TRADITIONAL METHOD.
TIME FRAME FOR CONSTR OF ONE BLDG
• PROCURE ONE SET OF FORMS FOR EIGHT DUs VIZ. ONE FLOOR.
• CARCAS FOR EIGHT DUs IS CONSTRUCTED IN ONE WEEK.
• CARCAS FOR ONE BUILDING COMPRISING FOUR FLOORS IS CONSTRUCTED IN – FOUR WEEKS (ONE MONTH).
• FINISHING WILL TAKE – ONE MONTH.
TIME FRAME FOR CONSTRUCTION OF TWELVE
BLDGS• ASSUMPTION – FOUR SETS OF
ALUMINIUM FORMS ARE AVAILABLE.
• EACH SET OF THE FORMS CAN CONSTRUCT ONE FLOOR OF EIGHT DUs AT A TIME.
• WE HAVE FOUR SETS OF TRAINED CREW TO CONSTRUCT WITH THESE FORMS.

• 384 FAMILIES; AVERAGE SIZE – 6 MEMBERS = 2,304 PERSONS WOULD HAVE BEEN HOUSED IN FOUR MONTHS.
• NUMBER OF PERSONS HOUSED WOULD BE AT LEAST TWICE THE NUMBERS DISPLACED.
• ENTIRE AREA WOULD HAVE ROADS AND OTHER ACCEPTABLE LEVEL OF MODERN AMENITIES.
• FOR BALANCE OF SLUM AREAS, NO ONE WILL HAVE TO BE DISPLACED OUT OF THE SLUM.
GRADUATED PROGRESS OF WORK
• HAVING SUCCESSFULLY REHABILITATED THE FIRST 100 M X 100 M = 10,000 Sq M OF THE SLUM, PROGRESS TO THE NEXT 10,000 Sq M.
• FOR THIS SPACE WE MAY NOT HAVE TO DISPLACE ANYONE OUT OF THE SLUM AREA.
• WORK ON SERVICES & OTHER AMENITIES CAN BE UNDERTAKEN SIMULTANEOUSLY SO AS TO BE IN TIME WITH HOUSE CONSTRUCTION.
PURE STATISTICS
• 384 DUs ARE CONSTRUCTED IN FOUR MONTHS (122 DAYS).
• 384 X 6 = 2,304 PERSONS ARE HOUSED IN 122 DAYS.
• RATE AT WHICH THE DEPRIVED PERSONS OF THE SOCIETY ARE HOUSED: -
2,304/122 = 18.88 SAY 19 PERSONS PER DAY. (THIS IS A GOOD ACHIEVEMENT)
FINAL COMMENTS
• HIGH SPEED CONSTRUCTION USING ALUMINIUM ALLOY FORMS HAS BEEN TRIED OUT AND FOUND TO BE SUCCESSFUL.
• IT IS TECHNICALLY AN ACHIEVABLE PROJECT AT THE SPEED AND COST INDICATED.
• ALUMINIUM FORMS, IF PROPERLY HANDLED & MAINTAINED, CAN BE USED 1000 TIMES.
