MR. JOHNSON
I have been at South Charlotte for 6 years. I graduated from
UNC-Charlotte. While at South Charlotte, I have coached the boys
basketball team in the 2007-2008 school year and the girls basketball team the last 2 years. I am married to
my best friend, Heidi, since 2003. We have a wonderful son, Geoffrey, who is named after the Toys R US
mascot, Geoffrey the Giraffe. We met while working there in 1997. Geoffrey will be 3 years old this Decem-
ber. We are expecting our 2nd child, a girl, this January. I am a HUGE UNC Tarheels fan. Other hobbies of
mine include hiking, visiting lighthouses, writing poetry, and playing sports.
BRING YOUR OWN TECHNOLOGY
Our school was one of 21 schools in CMS chosen to pilot
BYOT (Bring your own Technology). Because of our infra-
structure, we have decided to begin very small. This week,
parents in Mrs. Titus', Mrs. Gallagher's and Mrs. Yasurek's
all girls classrooms received a letter and
permission form. They will be the first students to access
the CMS Guest Network. They will be able to begin bringing
their own technology devices to their language arts classes
in mid
November. After we see how the network holds up, we will
decide how to move forward with adding other classrooms.
We are very excited about this new adventure.
SPIRIT WEEK
Student Council will be sponsoring a spirit week to coincide with Fall
sports. The days will be:
Tuesday, October 30- Neon Day
Wednesday, October 31- Crazy Tie/ Bowtie Day
Thursday, November 1- Purple and Teal Day
Friday, November 2- Decade Day (Dress up like someone in the
50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, or 90's)
TUTORING TIMES
All teachers tutor. Their schedules differ. Please check teachers’ web pages
for tutoring information. For morning sessions, teachers come to the door,
get students and go to their classrooms. If your child misses this time, they
will not be allowed to come in late, nor will we call the teacher and disrupt
tutoring time. Thank you for your help with this.

GOLFGOLFGOLFGOLF
The golf team has worked hard this season. We
have worked for hours practicing our short game
as well as working with our irons and drivers.
Our practice has begun to pay off. We
visited Olde Sycamore Golf Club on Tues., the
23rd. This was Carmel's home course and a
rather difficult series of holes. When the sun
finally set, we had managed to put together a
win with a score of 160 to Carmel's 168. It has
been a great season and as a coach, a very
rewarding one as I have witnessed the growth of
the team, both as golfers and as individuals.
I would like to thank the team and its members:
Sarah Godel, Wes Abel, Hayden Blalock, Michael Boyajian, Jackson Daghe, Hayden Deane,
Jake Oringel, Jake Slattery and Jansen
Tabor.

SOFTBALLSOFTBALLSOFTBALLSOFTBALL
The Shocker Softball team had a rematch with
AG. South Charlotte took the early lead in the
first inning, 2-0. The team plugged along with an
run in both the second and third inning to
increase the score to 4-0. AG snuck two runs in
on us in the fourth inning to make the score
4-2. With base hits by Iris Brammer, Bailie
Smith, Natalie Hallman, Alyssa Farrar, Molly
Cole, and Bridget McLendon, the Shockers were
holding on to the lead. Elli Harman made two
outstanding pop fly catches at second base while
bases were loaded to end the third and fifth in-
nings. Morgan Brader and Natalie Hallman battled against AG on the mound. The Shockers clinched an-
other win with a score of 4-2 to end the game in the seventh inning!
The South Charlotte Shocker Softball team played an exciting and fun game against Community House. The
teams were neck and neck after two innings, 0-0. In the third inning, the Shockers took the lead, 2-0.
Community House kept fighting and scored three runs in the fourth inning to make the score 2-3. The girls
were hitting the ball without success in the fifth inning while Community House was connecting for two
more runs. Elli Harman laid down a perfect bunt that scored the tying run, and then Bridget McLendon
crossed home plate to bring the score to a one point game at 4-5 after six. The Shockers kept their head in
the game to play the seventh inning and came out on top scoring two more runs. Tension was at it's height
as the home team had last at bats. Community House immediately hit a triple. Under pressure, Bridget
McLendon and Molly Cole each caught a pop fly. With two outs and only one more to go, Community
House shocked us with a bunt! The ball was scooped up and thrown to first for the third and winning
out. Natalie Hallman pitched a fantastic game, had
two hits and four RBI's. Morgan Brader connected
for three base hits and was our closing
pitcher. Molly Cole helped with two base
hits. Bailie Smith, Alyssa Farrar, Iris Brammer, and
Sierra Goff contributed with a base hit each. This is
the first time South Charlotte has won against Com-
munity House in the four years Coach Fabian has
been leading the team. The team worked diligently
the entire game, and came out on top this time
around with a final score of 6-5!

VOLLEYBALLVOLLEYBALLVOLLEYBALLVOLLEYBALL
On Monday Oct. 22nd, The South Charlotte Lady
Shockers Volleyball Team hosted Alexander
Graham. A.G. was the only team so far to defeat the
Shockers in a thrilling three-game match early in the
season. This time around the Lady Shockers, with
revenge on their minds, made sure that the bulldogs
knew when they left the gym who was the first place
team in the Southern league Conference. It took a
little time for the Lady Shockers to get rolling, but once
they did they took firm control of the match and swept
the bulldogs in two games. The Lady Shockers were
led by outstanding performances from Courtney Bruno, Caroline
Levine, Madeline McIver, Erin Holtzapple, Emily Parrott, Sarah Shipp and Riley Outen. They received a big
time serving performance from McKenna Cranford as well. During the second game of the Match, the
entire team got involved in the win as the Shockers received solid contributions from Katie Cross, Lauren
Harding, Taylor Roberts, and Lindsey LaBoyne. The win moves the Lady Shockers Record to (8-1) and
maintains their hold on first place in the conference.
On Wednesday Oct. 24th, The South Charlotte Lady Shockers Volleyball team went on the road to
Community House to take on the Cavaliers. Earlier in the season, the Lady Shockers managed to knock off
the previously unbeaten Cavaliers in a thrilling 3-game match. This time around would be no different as the
match turned out to be an absolute slug fest between the two best teams in the conference. In a
heart-stopper of a three-game match that saw the lead change hands well over a dozen times, the Lady
Shockers came up just short. The loss dropped the Lady
Shockers record to (8-2) but they were still able to
maintain a share of first place with Community House
(8-2). Both teams played their hearts out and both
deserved to win as the final scores indicate 25-23, 24-26,
13-15. With two matches left in the season, do not miss
your opportunity to see one of the best middle school
volleyball teams around play. Your First Place Shockers
will play their final home match on Tuesday Oct. 30th
against Carmel and will then play their final match of the
season on the road at Quail Hollow Wednesday Oct.
31st. If the Lady Shockers win both Matches, they will be
Crowned Conference Champions!
