Welcome to MOPS!

We are so glad you joined us today! We have a fun year planned and are excited about each upcoming meeting. We have a great Steering Team who are full of amazing ideas to make this our best MOPS year yet!

We hope you are able to use this time each month to relax, enjoy spending time with other moms and learn a few things to make mothering more fun and interesting. We have a lively monthly Bunco group , monthly play dates, and occasional Ladies Night Out to help you get connected and have fun with other moms!

Our theme this year is: MomSense: Bold • Loving • Sensible – equips moms to embrace their mothering instincts and develop their own parenting style while navigating through the myriad of daily mom decisions.

Developing a mothering strategy is somewhat like playing a game — and this year’s theme is appropriately game related. Have fun being a mom! Playing games involves being bold and taking risks, loving those in the game with us and being sensible while figuring out what works and what doesn’t.

Just as in real-life, sometimes in games, unexpected, “chance” events occur, abruptly changing our paths. We must regroup and determine our next steps. Sometimes we follow the instructions of “experts.” Sometimes we follow the advice of trusted friends. Sometimes we decide our “house rules” work best for our family. Teaming together with other moms is a great strategy. Relying on a spouse or mentor can help us play more effectively. And, most of all, developing a strong God-Sense is essential for mothering. Growing as a mom through the analogy of game playing assures every mom gains confidence in her abilities as a mom.

We LOVE it! We hope our meetings and the friendships you make will encourage you in these areas! If you have any questions about MOPS, please ask us!

Guess Who is Expecting...

Lets give a warm welcome to the babies who were born since we last met.

• Our first contestant is Benjamin Travis Hart. He was born on May 30th to Travis and Kristi Hart. Ethan is his proud older brother.

• Second we have Kylee Belle Frasier. Kylee was born on June 9th to Kelly and Jayme. Kaden is the brother who will be watching over her someday.

• Our next contestant is Emma McCaslin. Emma was born to Johnathan and Amanda on August 25th. Abigail and Ethan are the siblings who will be big helpers for Emma.

• Our youngest contestant is Miss Laine Grace. She was born on August 30th to Scott and Rachel Riddle. Her older sisters Reece and Rynn are happy to have her.

Hi Ho Baby O...

S eptember 23rd will be our first playdate of the year. We will meet at the West entrance of the South

Plains Fair near the Coliseum at 10:00 a.m.

Our kids will be able to pet the animals at the “Children’s Barnyard.” You can either bring a sack lunch or buy food from the available vendors.

Admission is FREE before 1:00 p.m.

The fairgrounds are located on the northeast corner of Broadway and US-87.

E ach month we take turns bringing food to share. Please note your table color and your color’s month to bring snacks. The food can be homemade or store bought. Please note that

we need all food here by 8:40 so ladies can begin eating when they arrive. If you won’t be able to make it on your assigned table snack date, please let your discussion group leader know so she can make arrangements to have other food brought. Thanks for your help and we can’t wait to sample your own tasty dish!

T eachers will be introducing kids to the wonderful world of color by discussing colors you see all around you. They will be explaining that God created all the beautiful colors in

the world – every single one of them. Moppetts will here the story of creation and will be playing color games and painting rainbows. All kids will get a Color achievement certificate at the end of the morning.

H ere is what is coming up...

If you like to save money, you won’t want to miss our speaker for October! Sean Fields who writes the Savvy Shopper column in the Lubbock Avalanche Journal (AJ) will be advising us on a wide variety of ways to save money. While he makes his income as a consulting engineer, his primary vocation is his family which includes his wife of 23 years and daughters that are 20 and 15 years old.

K aren Coleman and Regina Penney would like to announce an exciting new babysitting co-op for our MOPS group! We all want and need babysitters from time to time, but it

gets very expensive paying their wages. Here is a FREE option!How it works is you take turns watching each other’s children. If someone needs a babysitter,

they place an ad. One of the MOPS moms sees the ad and then agrees to watch the children. The mom who does the babysitting gets points for sitting. These points accumulate until you need someone to watch your kids at which time you use your points to “hire” a mom from the group to watch your kiddos.

Babysitting during the day is worth one point per child per hour. After 5:00 pm it is worth 2 points per child per hour. If you need people to go beyond the normal babysitting expectations to feed, bathe, put your children to bed, or stay at your house instead of their own, then you should award extra points accordingly.

There is a website caled www.hivemoms.com that will keep track of all the points and list all the childcare opportunities available. To become a member of this group, you have to be “buzzed in” by Karen or Regina. If this sounds like something you would be interested in, then send an email to Regina Penney at lbkpenneys@hotmail.com. She will then send you an invitation from HiveMoms and you can get started.

6CostY es, we hate it too, but we have to discuss the cost of

MOPS. To maintain our charter with MOPS we have to

collect $25 from each member. That money is used by MOPS International to bring you a weekly e-mail and a monthly magazine as well as a bag of goodies.

In order to purchase the supplies we need for our meetings and to defray some of the printing costs, we ask that each mom bring $5 to each meeting. Childcare is generously provided by Southcrest.

So if you attend the entire year, you would pay the $25 fee to MOPS International and the $5 per meeting fee for our 9 meetings.

To make payment as easy as possible, we have three different payment options and two payment methods.

• Option 1: You can pay everything up front in one lump sum. If you choose this option you get one meeting free, so your total for the entire year would be $65.

• Option 2: You can pay three equal payments of $22.50.• Option 3: You can pay the $25 MOPS International registration fee now and pay for each

meeting individually. No matter which option you choose, you can pay by cash or check.Points to remember...

• Your first meeting is FREE!• There are scholarships available! We would never turn down a mom who wanted to be in

MOPS but couldn’t pay. If you have a financial need, please talk with Krista or Lanisa and they can get it taken care of. Whatever you do, please don’t let money keep you away!

G et those Halloween costumes ready! Our October playdate will be on October 21st. We will start by taking pictures of our kiddos and

their costumes at the Pumpkin Patch, so make sure you are ready.
