It’s not too late to come to either or both the above events. On Saturday come to the Sausage Sizzle and Cake Stall outside Mitre 10 in Wollumbin Street anytime
between 8.00am and 12 noon. The best cakes are for the early starters!
On Sunday be at Knox Park at 9.00am to get the map and question sheet. This will be a great social day with
plenty of time at Sheepstation Creek Picnic Area to talk and relax.
The route home can either be to retrace the route we came by going back through Kyogle, or by going through
the Border Ranges National Park
along the Tweed Range Scenic
Drive. This is more direct and you
may stop at other points of interest
in the National Park. Have fun.
In the spirit!

District Office Bearers FROM WHERE I SIT by David We had a invigorating look at Membership Increase and Retention last Tuesday.
It was a pity that more Members didn‘t see Margarita Rickard‘s presentation, but
those who did, garnered some good ideas, which Membership Director Len, Bob
Shepherd and I will talk about over the next weeks.
There was a guest attended in the shape of Warren O‗Brien, whom I am
reasonably sure will turn his Guest Status into Membership. And Tonny van t‘Riet
attended from RC Murwillumbah, to talk about The Performing Arts Festival,
which is imminent, and at which we have for many years presented one of the
major awards. And will do so this year as well - just another of the many projects
we have for the younger members of our Community.
It was a graceless sort of Tuesday. What does that mean? Well, those who were
there know. Those who return this week will find out then. It seemed to be
acceptable, and the remaining Members will have a chance to say what they think
on Tuesday.
This week, another District Officer comes calling, this time Simone Wong,
District Youth Service Chair, and Immediate Past President of RC Mount
Warning AM. She will talk to us about the many Youth Services projects in which
we can involve ourselves on an ongoing basis. And as you know, we have one on
foot right now, which is the National Youth Science Forum, at which we are
sponsoring two young ladies from Murwillumbah High School, Erin Ganser and
Emily White. In addition we have part sponsored George Kettle to attend the
International Youth Science Forum in London later this year..
The Rotaract Club, which we sponsored, meets on the second and fourth
Wednesdays each month at the Murwillumbah Golf Club. It is a light-hearted
meeting, and well worth the effort of some more Members to attend as Guests.
Attendance at the Rotaract meeting qualifies as a make-up if you have missed our
own meeting. President Ema Marks is working hard, and deserves as much help
and encouragement as we can give.
The Banana Festival draws closer. Queen Candidate Tammy Dundon has two
events this weekend - a Cake Stall at the Sausage Sizzle on Saturday morning, and
a Car Observation Rally on Sunday, departing Knox Park at 09.00 (9am). And
we‘re back at Tweed Ten Pin Bowl on Friday night July 19 at 7.00pm for the
return match. Now that our members have recovered the use of their legs and their
backs are stronger for the exercise we may perform much better. More activities
to come.
We are raffling a motor cycle! We thought it wasn‘t possible. But Denis, Michael,
and the writer have proved it can be done. See us for access to the Banana Festival
Office, to put the motor cycle on show and garner some ticket sales. Any time you
can give to sit outside the Banana Festival office is worthwhile. In the first week
we have sold nearly three books, nearly 60 tickets or in value nearly $300. It is
surprising who buys tickets, people who do not seem likely buy one for their son
or husband because they live on a property of a few acres and see the value of
having a farm bike. David and Denis have keys so we are able to sell when the
Festival office is closed.
In all these projects, and others as we go, this small Club is Leading the Way, to
ENGAGE ROTARY AND CHANGE LIVES. Let‘s keep it going.
Thought of the day
"How can I lose to such an idiot?"
- A shout from chessmaster Aaron Nimzovich (1886-1935)
THE OBJECT OF
ROTARY
To encourage and foster
the ideal of service as a
basis of worthy enterprise
and, in particular, to
encourage and foster
1 The development of
acquaintance as an
opportunity for service
2 High ethical standards
i n b u s i n e s s a n d
p r o f e s s i o n s ; t h e
recognition of worthiness
of all useful occupations;
and the dignifying by each
Rotarian of his occupation
as an opportunity to serve
society
3 The application of the
ideal of service by every
Rotarian to his personal,
business and community
life
4 The advancement of
i n t e r n a t i o n a l
understanding, goodwill
and peace through a world
fellowship of business and
professional men united in
the ideal of service
NOTES
of the things
we think, say or do.
1 Is it the TRUTH ?
2 Is it FAIR to all
concerned ?
3 Will it build GOODWILL
and BETTER
FRIENDSHIPS ?
4 Will it be BENEFICIAL to
all concerned ?
TRANSFER MEETING Our meeting of Tuesday July 23 has been transferred to this meeting on
Wednesday July 24 at Kathmandu Kitchen,.Kingscliff.
There are two ways to build a successful company. One is
to work very, very hard to convince customers to pay high
margins. The other is to work very, very hard to be able to
afford to offer customers low margins. They both work.
We're firmly in the second camp. It's difficult—you have to
eliminate defects and be very efficient. But it's also a point
of view. We'd rather have a very large customer base and
low margins than a smaller customer base and higher
margins.

GOLF AND WHAT IT ALL MEANS Golf can best be defined as an endless series of
tragedies obscured by the occasional miracle,
followed by a good bottle of beer.
Golf ! You hit down to make the ball go up. You
swing left and the ball goes right. The lowest score
wins, on top of that, the winner buys the drinks.
If you find you do not mind playing Golf in the
rain, the snow, even during a hurricane, here's a
valuable tip ........ your life is in trouble.
Golfers who try to make everything perfect before
taking the shot rarely make a perfect shot.
A 'gimme' can best be defined as an agreement
between two golfers ...neither of whom can putt
very well.
An interesting thing about Golf is that no matter
how badly you play, it is always possible to get
worse.
Golf's a hard game to figure. One day you'll go out
and slice it and shank it, hit into all the traps and
miss every green. The next day you go out and for
no reason at all you really stink.
If your best shots are the practice swing and the
'gimme putt', you might wish to reconsider this
game.
Golf is the only sport where the most feared
opponent is you.
Golf is like marriage, If you take yourself too
seriously it won't work, and both are expensive.
The best wood in most amateurs' bags is the pencil.
David Letterman's Top Ten Reasons Why Golf Is
Better Than Sex...
#10... A below par performance is considered damn
good.
#09... You can stop in the middle and have a
cheeseburger and a couple of beers.
#08... It's much easier to find the sweet spot.
#07... Foursomes are encouraged.
#06... You can still make money doing it as a
senior.
#05... Three times a day is possible.
#04... Your partner doesn't hire a lawyer if you play
with someone else.
#03... If you live in Florida , you can do it almost
every day.
#02... You don't have to cuddle with your partner
when you're finished.
And the NUMBER ONE reason why golf is better
than sex.....
#01... When your equipment gets old you can
replace it!
The wonders of modern travel!!!!
Why Men Are Like Computers:
10. They have a lot of data but are still clueless.
9. A better model is always just around the corner.
8. They look nice and shiny until you bring them home.
7. It is always necessary to have a backup.
6. They‘ll do whatever you say if you push the right buttons.
5. The best part of having either one is the games you can play.
4. In order to get their attention, you have to turn them on.
3. The lights are on but nobody‘s home.
2. Big power surges knock them out for the night.
1. Size does matter.
A man rubbed a lamp and a genie came out.
The man asked to be stronger than any other man. He was given
the strength to crush bolders.
He asked for the worlds fastest sports car and a ferrari appeared
in front of him.
He then asked to be smarter than any other man on the earth. He
was turned into a woman.
It is only two weeks into the term that, in a calculus class, a
student raises his hand and asks: ―Will we ever need this stuff in
real life?‖
The professor gently smiles and says: ―Of course not – if your
real life will consist of flipping hamburgers at MacDonald‘s!‖

The Club Song
We‘ve come to introduce you to the Murwillumbah Central boys,
The way you know that we‘re around is when you hear the noise,
There‘s tenors, basses, inbetweens, and some just here for show,
But all the same we‘ll sing to you, so boys just ‗Let ‗er go‘.
When Governor Georgie, gave us our charter,
He kissed our Rotaryannes to make it right,
We‘ve come to greet you, because we‘re after,
All the fun and fellowship that‘s going tonight.
So put it there!
