Florida A&M University’s Master Farmers Program

Florida A&M University Cooperative Extension Service launched a Master Farmer Training Program, designed to train participants to develop knowledge and skills required to become self-sufficient in farming or to build successful farm enterprises.

This training is conduced through the joint efforts of FAMU, University of Florida, Farm Credit of North

West Florida and the South Eastern Small Farmers Network. The goal of the program is to provide socially disadvantaged minority farmers and ranchers within northern Florida, southern Georgia and southern Alabama with technical and educational skills that can transform their farms into profitable and sustainable units. The 10-day program will include such topics as vegetable gardening, small ruminant production, e-marketing, record keeping, precision agriculture, risk management, farm safety, alternative crops, and gaining access to start-up resources.

The training dates are August 3-4; August 17-18; August 31-Sept.

1, and Sept. 14-15 and will take place at the FAMU Research and Extension Center, 4259 Bainbridge Highway, Quincy, FL.
