WOMEN OF FAITH ON A JOURNEY
SAINT ALOYSIUS PARISH, CALDWELL NJ
St. Aloysius Parish Mission Statement
St. Aloysius Parish is a Roman Catholic community
dedicated to celebrating the life and word of Jesus
Christ. All are welcome to deepen their spiritual and
personal lives through active participation in weekly
Liturgy, the celebration of the Sacraments, Parish
ministries and community activities. Acknowledging
our incompleteness and our need for God’s grace, we
commit ourselves, through Baptism, to responding to
God’s call to become and grow as disciples of Jesus
Christ in our time. Jesus Christ is at the center of all of
our lives.

Dear Parishioners,
It is hard to believe that summer is over and we are
starting a series of new events. We are filling our calendar
with events at school, work and social events. If we stop
and think of many of these activities they are really the
same ones from last year. This is a time where we review,
rethink and re-vitalize many of these habits.
One of these habits is our singing at Mass.
Therefore this brings up the question “Why Do We Sing”?
at Mass.
We sing because singing does something to words
that nothing else can do. It gets them into our memory,
minds and heart. Singing gets words into our being even
better than listening does. How many of us go home
humming the homily? - no matter how good it is. The
homily is something we listen to, not something we do.
Many times we switch on the radio or CD player to
listen to our favorite songs and before we know it we find
ourselves singing along with the singer or performers.
Music has the power to make words and events
memorable. What can be more memorable than Christ’s
mission on earth - to save us. This is what we remember in
song as we relive Christ’s mission in the words of the music
at Mass.
Joe Wozniak
Music Minister

Dear Parishioners, Our parish school, Trinity Academy, begins its 26th year next week. Recognized last year by the U.S. Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School, our Trinity provides a rigorous curriculum and Catholic teaching and values. Trinity’s very existence underlines major American ideals, namely, parental freedom pf choice in education and the free exercise of religion in our nation. † † † † † † † † † † † † †
Our Faith Formation - Religious Education programs are excited about beginning a new year. Several important items to know for this year: 1) You may now register for religious education on-line at www.stalscaldwell.org. 2) A new, religious ed. secretary will be available during the school week, Dori Karpinski will now be happy to assist you. Ed Karpinski, Jackie Alworth, Sr. Alice Uhl, O.P., assisted by our catechists and aides, have planned a wonderful program for the year. Sr. Alice and the RCIA team are also anxious to Share our Faith again. Family Catechesis is increasingly a family choice. Dominican Sister Eleanor Uhl (Yes, she is Sr. Alice’s sister) will join our team with a special emphasis on home visitation to the elderly. Sr. Eleanor recently completed 55 years in education, much of that time as a school principal. Welcome, Sr. Eleanor. † † † † † † † † † † † † †
Our Parish computer system is being completely upgraded during September. It’s easy to fall behind, especially in terms of data security. We have contracted with a local firm to assist us. Fr. Juan Jose Esteban (a.k.a. Fr. JJ) will reorganize our Altar Servers in the coming weeks. Servers are an important liturgical component. Boys and girls, grades 4 thru 12 are encouraged to serve the Lord and our parish in this special ministry. A reminder that we will have one parish Mass on Labor Day, Monday, September 5th. The 12 noon daily Mass will resume on Tuesday, September 6th. † † † † † † † † † † † † †
Looking ahead, we have started planning for St. Aloysius’ 125th anniversary, 1892 - 2017. More to come soon. A priority for our parish this year is to develop a really good, effective and attractive Youth Ministry Program. Pray that it all comes together very well.
Thank you. Thank you. We are Living Stones - The Archdiocesan Capital Campaign - continues for all who haven’t had a chance to make their pledge yet. I am so very grateful to our generous parishioners who have pledged already. Here are the stats: 252 donors have pledged $721,117.40. Cash received is $211, 517.60. The balance of pledges is $509,599.80. The average gift from St. Aloysius is $2,831.82. The parish has received $44,258.80 back from the archdiocese as our share so far. The smallest pledge was for $25. The largest pledge is for $100,000. If you haven’t made your pledge yet, please do so. Our parish will benefit greatly. Thank you. Msgr. Desmond

Saint Teresa of Kalkata This morning at St. Peter’s in the Vatican,
Pope Francis canonized a woman whom he called:
“a symbol, an icon for our age”, Teresa of Kalkata.
In St. Teresa, we have the intersection of prayer,
mercy, peace-making, concrete acts of charity and
quiet contemplation.
In a preface to a book of St. Teresa’s talks,
Pope Francis has previously written: “Mother
Teresa untiringly invites us to draw from the source
of love: Jesus crucified and risen, present in the
sacrament of the Eucharist. She transformed her
work into prayer.”
At the end of his preface to Mother Teresa’s
book, Pope Francis wrote the following to young
people: “Do not lose hope, do not let anyone rob you
of your future which is in your hands. Remain in the
Lord and love Him like God loves you. Be builders
of bridges that break down the logic of division,
rejection and fear of others, and put yourself at the
service of the poor.”
Again referring to St. Teresa of Kalkata,
Pope Francis writes: “An authentic faith, which is
never comfortable or completely personal, always
involves a deep desire to change the world, to
transmit values, to leave this earth somehow better
than we found it.”
Saint Teresa of Kalkata, pray for us.

DO YOU HAVE FIVE MINUTES A DAY?
DO YOU WORRY ABOUT
OUR WORLD TODAY?
We would like to invite you to become part of the
LIVING ROSARY. This activity was started at Saint Aloysius Parish a number of years ago as a means of joining our prayers together to pray for peace in our country and for all our special intentions. It is also in response to people’s needs for greater spiritual growth. At this time we have several teams of 5 members each participating in our living rosary. It is a power house of prayer!
This activity may be taken on by anyone. Families can participate, the home bound can become part of the Living Rosary; persons on their way to work can join also.
There are no meetings to attend.
What is necessary to become part of the Living Rosary is a commitment to say one decade of the Rosary each day. You then become a member of a team who together says the entire rosary each day. It is said for the intentions of those members comprising the Living Rosary and for the specific and special intentions of our parish. It can be done at home, in the car, on the train, and any time of your day.
The Rosary has been used for centuries for world peace, against the heresy of the times, during the Nazi occupation of Poland and at many other times. This is a simple devotion, parish oriented, that demands little of its members and produces great spiritual results.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the LIVING ROSARY. Please fill out the form below and put it in the collection basket, drop it off at the rectory or the parish center, or call Sister Justine at 973-226-0209 x 37 or e-mail me at [email protected]. We will then contact you to coordinate the groups and mysteries of the Rosary.
I am interested in becoming a member of the Living
Rosary:
